Coach parked in the Bus Zone

As of this month, 2.5 euros must be paid for brief coach stops for boarding and alighting in Bus Zones

The new measure aims to reduce the impact that tourist coaches travelling through the city are having on mobility, ensuring proper use of Bus Zones

As of 1 July, tourist coaches will have to pay 2.5 euros for passenger pick-up and drop-off stops in Bus Zones. As was the case up to now, such stops, which are invariably made close to points of high tourist interest, cannot last for longer than 10 minutes and need to be registered with SPRO, the metropolitan app for professional drivers. Payments are also made through this platform.

Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM), is therefore giving effect to the Tax Byelaw on Regulated Vehicle Parking on public highways. As stipulated in the tax byelaw, the proceeds obtained from this levy will go towards funding initiatives that promote sustainable mobility.

The new measure aims to reduce the impact that tourist coaches travelling through the city are having on mobility, ensuring proper use of Bus Zones.

An exclusive parking and stopping area for tourist coaches

Bus Zones are made up of all the spaces reserved for tourist coaches to stop or park in. They are invariably located close to places that attract large numbers of visitors, such as the Sagrada Família, Ciutat Vella, Park Güell and La Pedrera. There are currently 35 Bus Zone areas with a total of 162 parking places

Use of these exclusive parking and stopping zones for coaches enables more orderly access to these popular tourist attractions, while helping to improve vehicle-traffic and pedestrian flows in general.

SPRO, the metropolitan app for professional drivers

Last year, the management of the Barcelona Bus Zone was incorporated into SPRO, the app for professional drivers, and over 2,300 coach drivers are now using it. Thanks to that, these professionals can now manage their stops and parking in the city quickly and flexibly via their mobiles.

Besides its use for the Bus Zone, since 2020 SPRO has been the benchmark app for professional drivers who use goods loading and unloading areas (DUM). It currently has over 130,000 distribution professionals registered with it and operates in 8 metropolitan municipalities: Barcelona, Castelldefels, Esplugues de Llobregat, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern and Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
