The course includes 120 hours of theory and practical classes in the workshop where the service's bicycle fleet maintenance is carried out
The students taking part come from seven organisations which help to get people in vulnerable situations in Barcelona into work
Bicing, the bicycle-share service, has launched a training programme for people in vulnerable situations. It consists of a bicycle mechanics course that is given in Bicing's offices and maintenance workshop.
The course is delivered by staff from Pedalem Barcelona. It involves 40 hours of theory and 80 hours of practical classes and will run from 13 February to 17 March this year. The course is exclusively for a group of young people from the following social organisations: Fundació Pere Tarrés, Servei Solidari, Transpirenaica Social Solidària, Barcelonaactua, Fundació Surt, Casal dels Infants and Programa Làbora. The goals of all these organisations include fostering employment and helping to get people in vulnerable situations into work.
During the course, the students learn about basic bicycle mechanics, including how to repair and maintain bikes, the tasks carried out in the store room and the maintenance and repair of components. The course also works on improving the skills and resources the students need to help them find work, providing them with the skills needed in a profession that has a high demand for qualified personnel.
