On Monday, Park Güell brought together 1,800 people for Blues for Tete and Bebo, a concert by the Barcelona Jazz Festival paying homage to two jazz greats: Tete Montoliu and Bebo Valdés. Open to residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods, the concert was part of the programme of cultural events intended to make the park a space for gathering, community and access to culture. It was also one of the main events for the 60th anniversary of the Barcelona Jazz Festival, a three-year commemoration (2026-2028) featuring various activities around the city.

The concert brought the Barcelona Jazz Festival to one of the city’s most iconic spaces, championing the legacy and artistic career of two musicians closely linked to the history of the festival. This collaboration strengthens Park Güell’s commitment to hosting cultural city events, especially for residents of the surrounding areas.
During the concert, Joan Manuel Serrat was tasked with posthumously awarding the festival’s gold medal to Tete Montoliu. It was collected by his daughter, Núria Montoliu. Through this recognition, the event sought to highlight one of the most internationally renowned Catalan pianists and a key figure in jazz history.

Serrat also took to the stage as a special guest alongside Andrea Motis, on trumpet and vocals, and Paquito D’Rivera, on the alto sax and the clarinet. Their performances enriched an evening designed to celebrate the musical legacy of Tete Montoliu and Bebo Valdés.

Park Güell brings culture to its surrounding neighbourhoods

Blues for Tete and Bebo continued Park Güell’s programme of free cultural events to make the site a place for local residents and strengthen ties with the surrounding neighbourhoods. The programme included events such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu choir and orchestra’s performance of the Carmina Burana cantata; a concert by the Escolania de Montserrat, and Decostumari, a dance performance during the La Mercè festivities.

The various events have received highly positive feedback and attracted large numbers of local residents, making Park Güell not only a leading heritage site, but also a living venue open to the public, with a cultural programme creating opportunities for people to gather, participate and enjoy culture together.
