Park Güell brought together 1,800 people on Sunday for the final Barcelona concert in Els Amics de les Arts’ 20th anniversary tour. The free concert for residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods was part of Park Güell’s programme of cultural events to promote the park as a site for city residents and strengthen its ties with the local community. Plaça de la Natura was the setting for a particularly moving evening.

The group dubbed the event “La nit sembla que serà nostra”, in a nod to one of the most popular songs at their concerts. In an unparalleled setting, Els Amics de les Arts looked back at two decades of songs, accompanied by artist friends. Andrea Motis took part in L’home que treballa fent de gos, while Arià Salas from La Pegatina joined the band to sing Ja no ens passa. Both collaborations formed part of the 20 anys d’Amics album, but had not yet been performed live.

The audience also enjoyed a special version of L’Arquitecte, prepared specially for the occasion with a new arrangement inspired by Antoni Gaudí and his profession. The performance engaged directly with Park Güell, one of his most iconic works.

Back by popular demand, Els Amics de les Arts organised the tour following wildly successful anniversary concerts in Barcelona, Valencia, Mallorca and Andorra. The closing concert at Park Güell reaffirmed Els Amics de les Arts as one of the leading acts in Catalan music, with a repertoire that has left its mark on more than one generation.

Park Güell brings culture to its surrounding neighbourhoods

The Els Amics de les Arts concert continued Park Güell’s programme of free cultural events to make the park a site for local residents and strengthen its ties with the surrounding neighbourhoods. The programme included events such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu choir and orchestra’s performance of the Carmina Burana cantata; a concert by the Escolania de Montserrat, and Decostumari, a dance performance during the La Mercè festivities.

The various events have received highly positive feedback and attracted large numbers of local residents, making Park Güell not only a leading heritage site, but also a living venue open to the public, with a cultural programme creating opportunities for people to gather, participate and enjoy culture together.
