On 3 and 4 October, Barcelona will for the first time host this congress on sustainability and coastal cleaning
Maritime and sustainability professionals will meet on Friday to analyse the current state of the Barcelona coast, while on Saturday members of the public will be able to help clean the beach and the seabed
For the first time, Barcelona will host the Plogging Congress, the leading event on sustainability and sea pollution. Organised by BSM and the Fundació Climent Guitart, the meeting will be held at the Port Olímpic on 3 and 4 October and represents another step in the Port’s commitment to sustainability and the regeneration of the seabed.
The Plogging Congress will get under way on Friday, 3 October, with a programme of talks and round tables featuring maritime and sustainability companies, institutions and professionals. Participants include the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) – CSIC, Zoo de Barcelona and the Federació Catalana d’Activitats Subaquàtiques (FECDAS). The sessions will be held in the Sala Mestral at the Port Olímpic from 9 am to 1.30 pm.
The next day, Saturday 4 October, the Plogging Congress will open to the public and invite everyone to help clean the sand, water surface and seabed at Nova Icària Beach. The cleanup will start at 10 am and the meeting point for participants on foot will be the entrance to the Nova Icària Beach located at the Moll de Gregal wharf.
In parallel, members of the Centre Municipal de Vela (CMV), the Barcelona Diving Club, the Club Esportiu Mossos d’Esquadra (CEME) and the Secció d’Activitats Subaquàtiques dels Bombers de Barcelona (SAS), as well as others, will also be collecting watse in the water and on the seabed at the same beach.
Also on Saturday, the Moll de Mestral wharf at the Port Olímpic will be hosting a new edition of Dissabte Blau, the Port’s family festival. Free sea-inspired workshops and activities for all ages will start at 11 am. Options include craft activities, a reading corner and new workshops organised by Zoo de Barcelona.
Dissabte Blau rounds off its October edition with a Xavi Xixarrus. show featuring music, dance and laughter. The show will take place at the Moll de Mestral wharf at 1 pm.
