The Moll de Mestral wharf is hosting various music and stage events this Saturday

This is the first time that the Port Olímpic has joined in with the local festival, the idea being to open it up to local people

This weekend sees the Port Olímpic become one of the venues for the local festival in the Vila Olímpica neighbourhood. As from 7 pm on Saturday, the Moll de Mestral wharf will be hosting various music and stage events aimed at all audiences.

There’s a dance and performing arts display at 7 pm. Oriental dance and line dancing groups for the local community centre will be performing, with a line dance class where everybody can take part too. After that, the AULES school will be performing a show created in the Commedia dell’Arte workshops.

From 9 pm it’s the turn of the Barcelona band CAPINÀS, who will be presenting their latest disc Visceral, filling the wharf with rumba.

The full festival programme can be found here.

A port linked to the citizens

This is the first time the Port Olímpic has hosted activities for the Vila Olímpica neighbourhood festival. The initiative corresponds to the twofold aim of getting local people involved in the transformation of this space and reconnecting the port with the surrounding area.

Work gets under way in July on the new access routes to the create a direct link between Avinguda Litoral and a large recreational area and promenade at Moll de Mestral.  The work should take a year and do away with barriers and changes in levels, generating continuity between the neighbourhoods of Vila Olímpica and the port.

Various communication initiatives are planned to coincide with the start of the work, such as an information leaflet to be sent out and guided tours of the facilities at the port offered, with the collaboration of the local residents’ associations of Vila Olímpica, Front Marítim and Diagonal Mar. The purpose of the tour is to explain how the works are progressing, the new uses of the port and the activity that will be developed there by B:SM, who is responsible for its management.
