Park Güell, all set for a summer of music, film and historical routes

Entitled “Music, women and city”, the programme offers a cycle or concerts inspired by the final years of Francoist period and a film cycle devoted to the role of women in the 1960s 

The programme is being run in collaboration with the Museu d’Història de Barcelona (MUHBA), with guided history routes also planned

Park Güell will be playing host over the coming months to a full programme of culture, organised in collaboration with the MUHBA. The goal is to offer new opportunities for people to enjoy this iconic space, with activities sharing the goal of discovering the history of the city through music, film and guided routes.

Entitled “Music, women and city”, the programme offers several cultural initiatives, with a historical and heritage vision. One of these is the concert cycle Camins musicals de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 - 1986, organised in collaboration with ESMUC and offering a journey through the different experiences of the final days of the Franco era and early days of democracy.  Another is the Barcelona en moviment film cycle, which is devoted this year to women in the 1960s Barcelona and will be screening three films about relationships between couples and the subsidiary role that women had at the time, with Barcelona as the backdrop. This cycle is being run in collaboration with Filmoteca de Catalunya. 

“Camins musicals de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 - 1986” concert cycle

Another summer, and Plaça de la Natura in Park Güell will be turning into a big stage for music once again, on the last Friday in June and every Friday in July. The park will be playing host to a concert cycle entitled “Camins musical de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 / 1986”, organised with the help of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). This year’s cycle offers four concerts based on the diversity of Barcelona's society in the final years of the Franco era and the early years of democracy. 

  • “Sons de llibertat” [Sounds of freedom], with Pol Aumedes (30 June, at 8.30 pm)
  • “Sons de flamenco en vermell” [Sounds of flamenco in red], with La prenda roja (7 July, at 8.30 pm) 
  • “Nits llatines” [Latin nights], with Jordi Barceló Grup (14 July, at 8.30 pm)
  • “From now on”, with Isaac Romagosa Group (21 July, at 8.30 pm)

“Barcelona en moviment” film cycle

The “Barcelona en moviment” film cycle will be devoted this summer to women in the 1960s Barcelona and screening three films about relationships between couples and the subsidiary role that women had at that time. A selection of films screened every Wednesday in July, in collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya.

  • España otra vez (1968), by Jaime Camino (5 July, at 9 pm)
  • Noche de vino tinto (1966), by José María Nunes (12 July, at 9 pm)
  • El certificado (1970), by Vicente Lluch (19 July, at 9 pm)

The concerts and film sessions are free, when booked in advance from the MUHBA website

Historical itineraries and routes at the park

In addition, several itineraries and guided historical routes will also being held at Park Güell and its surrounding neighbourhoods, from the end of June through to September, exploring various aspects linked to the history of the park, the career of the architect Antoni Gaudí, the site’s link with the city and the evolution of nearby neighbourhoods early in the 20th century. 

These guided tours will cost 2 euros and last somewhere between 1 and 3 hours. Dates, times and ticket purchasing are all available on the MUHBA website.
