An exhibition explains the different training phases fot the dogs to become a seeing-eye dog

Barcelona Zoo de Barcelona holds the celebration of the Guide Dog ONCE Foundation, an institution that has trained more than 2.500 to help people with visual disabilities to improve its autonomy and safety. To commemorate this anniversary, the exhibition “25 years walking together” has been inaugurated, in which people will learn about the different training that a dog has to go through to become a seeing-eye dog. The exhibition is open at the gorilla space in the Zoo until Sunday 24th, from 10h to 17h.

With conventional use of rotation and renting, it has 150 spaces in 4.344 m2

The new public car park located at Teodor Llorente street, near Mercat del Guinardó, is already in service. It has 140 spaces for cars, including 4 for people with reduced mobility and 4 for electric cars, 40 spaces for motorbikes and another 10 spots for bicycles. Users have a large number of types of permits, provided by B:SM: full pass (24h), daytime pass, nighttime pass, and rotational products like the prepayment parking passes (25h, 50h and 100h) and the parking vouchers given by the shops in the area.

The visitor number '600.000' received free tickets for the pack and plenty of gifts from the Tibidabo shop

Tibidabo Amusement Park has received this morning the visitor number 600.000 so far this year, and Tibidabo has offered him a very special celebration. The visitor "600.000" and his family has been surprised at the moment they were buying their tickets. The mascots of the Park (Ti, Bi, Da and BO) and and the character Spaghetti has given them free tickets for the Park and a lot of gifts from the Tibidabo's shop.

They will be able to request the electric service via the website between to enjoy the electric Bicing for free between the 11th and the 18th of October

Barcelona celebrates the Mobility Week (11-18 of October) to promote the use of the electric bike. In this sense, Bicing users will have the opportunity to test the electric service if they request it in the website. Automatically, with the same Bicing card, they will have access to the electric service for free, not having to pay for the subscription nor for the first 30 minutes of every trip. The new headquarters of B:SM, at c/ Calabria 66, host this working day held by Red ELIGE

The new corporate headquarters of B:SM, at c/ Calabria 66,  has been chosen by Red ELIGE, the Spanish network of local companies, to host the working day entitled “Basic criteria relating ti the effective cost of the services provided by local enterprises”. The conference will be held on October 15, starting at 9: 30h in the Auditorium, and will be chaired by Ignasi Armengol, Managing Director of B:SM, and Jesus Maza, President of Red ELIGE.

The office has been integrated within the new Customer Service of B:SM, located at the new headquarters of B:SM, at c/ Calabria 66

The green AREA Customer Support Office, has been moved from its former location at Carles Pi i Sunyer Square to the new headquarters of B:SM at c/ Calabria 66, and it is now integrated at the new Customer Service of B:SM. Every procedures related to green and blue AREA can now be made in person at the new location, in which will also be attended any incident with the parking meters or with the mobile apps apparkB and areaDUM. Procedures related to B:SM car parks will be taken care of at the new facilities.

There will be several workshops about cooking and healthy eating habits, thanks to the agreement with Alicia Foundation

October will be a month with a lot of novelties at the Tibidabo Amusement Park. On one hand, there will be traditional Pupper Exhibition in its fifth edition and, on the other hand, October will be the month of the Healthy Food, with several workshops about cooking and healthy habits thanks to the agreement with Alicia Foundation. The aim is to teach children about the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. At the same time, a musical show called “Pentagana” will be performed to complement the workshops, educating children in a funny and participative environment.

Every weekend there will be a different puppet performance by some of the best national and international artists, who will amuse children and families with their stories. Shows last 20 minutes approximately, and will be performed several times during the day (13:00h,  14:00h, 16:00h, 17:00h and 18:00h). The puppet exhibition is included in the general ticket, but there is an option for those who only want to attend to the show that costs 3€, and there is also the possibility of buying a complete pass for 10€. It's exceptional, because they have been born to 4 different mothers in such a short space of time

Barcelona Zoo has welcomed a new baby gorilla, born on 2 September, who can now be seen at the gorilla facility and who is in perfect health according to initial examinations carried out by the keepers. Her mother is Batanga, Snowflake's grand-daughter, who is taken up with looking after her baby, accompanied by Ngumbi, her other daughter, and Ebobo, the father, who is extremely protective and keeps watch for anything that might harm the baby.

This was the fourth gorilla to be born at Barcelona Zoo in the last six months, an exceptional event bearing in mind that they were born to four different females within a very short space of time and at the same Zoo. The first to be born was Akiba, on 19 March, with Mbini and Virunga born on 1 and 3 May respectively. These births demonstrates the vitality of the group of gorillas at the Zoo and highlights the excellent work carried out by the professionals who work there.

The video shows how, just a few minutes after giving birth, Batanga cleans away the blood and placenta from her baby, who is only minutes old, while the umbilical cord is till clearly visible.

The very same week of the birth, the zoo was holding a "History of our Cubs" summer camp and the children at the camp were able to see the new baby during the very first hours of her life. It was the children on the summer camp who gave the baby her name. Of the four names proposed by the Zoo, they decided to call her Yoko.

In critical danger of extinction

The Western plains gorilla is on the red list according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, as the species is in critical danger of extinction. According to GRASP (Great Apes Survival Partnership), there are now fewer than 225,000 gorillas remaining throughout the world.

Poaching and illegal trade are two of the greatest threats to this species, originally from West Africa, which has also seen its habitat reduced due to tree-felling and the introduction of crops. Gorilla mortality has recently risen due to the Ebola virus.

The three gorilla babies were born as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme (EEP) run by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, of which Barcelona Zoo is a member. The EEP maintains a genetically and demographically sustainable ex situ population of 450 individuals, 200 males and 250 females, to improve the variability of the species and maintain acceptable reproduction rates that will ensure the survival of the species.

The Airport restaurant has become a reference because of their fun and fast menus for families

Toni Massanés, general manager of Fundació Alicia, and Bruno Querol, operations director of Tibidabo, presented the new gastronomic offer that the Foundation has prepared for the Airport restaurant at the Park. Under the motto “eat healthy, eat fun”, both the Tibidabo and Fundació Alicia want to do an educational work to visitors, teaching the base to create a balanced menu, choosing one product from each food major group: vegetables, starchy and protein, with a piece of fruit for dessert.

That’s the second season of cooperation between Tibidabo and Alicia, and this year’s offer aims to be attractive, healthy and differentiated respect of other restaurants at the park, being affordable, and offering simple and fast recipes with few ingredients, maintaining quality.

The Fundació Alicia, created in 2004 by Ferran Adrià, is a center with a social vocation, dedicated to the technological innovation in the kitchen, to improve eating habits and food heritage assessment. Tibidabo Amusement Park has six major restaurants, being the Airport the one with more capacity, with a total of 348 seats.

From the 1st of August 1st to the 30th of September, with free admission

Between the 1st of August and the 30th of September, the Zoo hosts a spectacular exhibition of live exotic insects, from millipedes and giant beetles to all types of tarantulas and a butterflies. The exhibition is open eery day of the week, from 11am to 18pm, with free entrance. In addition, a "Toca Toca" activity will be held every Saturday, in which both children and adults will have the chance to learn about invertebrates and even touch them. The activity has a capacity for 30 people, the first session is at 12 and the second one takes place at 13:30h. Reservation recquired.
