In November, Port Olímpic will host three new concerts by the Conservatori Liceu as part of the KBr Live series, the programme led by BSM, the Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to include photography and the performing arts as part of the cultural programme at Port Olímpic. 

The free outdoor concerts will take place on Sunday 2, 9 and 23 November at 12.30 pm. All of the sessions will feature repertoires inspired by the current exhibition at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE photography centre showcasing the work of Helen Levitt, one of the biggest names in 20th-century urban photography. 

The 2 November will be performed by a quartet of students from the Conservatori Liceu: Sergio del Boccio (vocals), Sergi Zaragoza (keyboard), Andrea López (cello) and Anna Llorens (cello). 

On 2 November and every Sunday this month, admission to this iconic attraction will be free, with no booking required   

Parc d’atraccions Tibidabo is kicking off celebrations for its 124th anniversary by opening Miramiralls to everyone. On 2 November and every Sunday this month, admission to Miramiralls will be free. To visit the site, you don’t have to book in advance or go to the park ticket offices.

Miramiralls is one of the most iconic attractions at Tibidabo. Previously known as the Hall of Mirrors, the space changed its name and was renovated in 2008 by Varis Arquitectes. This transformation earned them the FAD prize for architecture in 2009, thanks to the imaginativeness of the installation. 

Today, Miramiralls features unique visual and lighting effects, as well as other secrets that create magical experiences and incredible perspectives for young and old alike.

Miramiralls is the second park attraction that can be visited without a ticket. In May, the Automata Museum joined other museums in Barcelona in offering free admission on the first Sunday of every month.

The free concerts on 19 and 26 October at 12:30 pm at the Port Olímpic’s Moll de Gregal wharf will feature students from the Conservatori Liceu 

Port Olímpic will be hosting another concert on Saturday 19 October at 12:30 pm as part of the KBr Live series, the cultural programme put together by BSM, Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to bring photography and the performing arts closer to the city’s residents through the new Port Olímpic.

The free concert, which will take place at Moll de Gregal, will be inspired by the current exhibition at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE photography centre showcasing the work of Helen Levitt, one of the biggest names in urban photography of the 20th century. The concert will feature jazz, the quintessential American genre, which, like Levitt’s work, is able to turn the everyday into art, with reinterpreted popular melodies that evoke the atmosphere of the streets of New York, captured so sensitively by the photographer.

The performers will be a quartet of students from the Conservatori Liceu: Xavi Maldonado (tenor saxophone), Rodrigo Lauroba (tenor saxophone), Mateu Teixidó (double bass) and Miguel Robles (drums), who will offer the audience a selection of iconic jazz standards inspired by Helen Levitt’s art. 

Alongside the concerts, and as an extension of the Helen Levitt exhibition currently open at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE photography centre, attendees can also enjoy a display of the artist’s photography at Moll de Mestral. This free outdoor exhibition is part of the collaboration agreement between BSM, Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to bring photography into the public space and establish Port Olímpic as a new, accessible cultural venue for the city’s residents. 

In addition to the concert this Saturday, the KBr Live series has another planned on Saturday 26 October at the same time, and will maintain its usual schedule of family activities on Saturday mornings. This programme combines visits to exhibitions at the photography centre with outdoor workshops where visitors discover the foundations of the of photography while having fun. The activity, aimed at families with children aged 7 to 12, takes place every Saturday from 11:30 am to 1 pm and is free, though prior booking is required.

On 24 and 25 October, Port Olímpic will host the SeaWilding’25 Side-Event, a programme of free activities for all ages that combines science, art, learning and entertainment

On 24 and 25 October, Port Olímpic will host the SeaWilding’25 Side-Event, a programme of free family activities linked to the SeaWilding Conference 2025, which is being held this week in Barcelona (for the first time in Spain). 

The SeaWilding’25 Side-Event – which will take place on Friday and Saturday from 11:30 am to 8 pm at the Moll de Mestral, Port Olímpic – offers a unique way to connect with the oceans from multiple perspectives. The programme includes science, art, educational and entertainment activities inspired by the oceans and designed for all audiences. 

More specifically, on both Friday and Saturday, more than 20 documentaries and short films about the sea will be screened at Port Olímpic, alongside an exhibition of underwater photographs. The documentaries being shown include: Vides de sal, by Silvia Gómez Mestres, which depicts the traditional fishing sector on the Catalan coast and the challenges it faces; Mar de Lobos, by Matías Ameglio, on the second largest natural reserve of sea lions in the world, found on the island of Lobos; and the children’s series Secretos del océano, by Enrique Talledo. 

The SeaWilding’25 Side-Event programme also includes workshops for young and old, talks and round tables on the state of our oceans, and plenty of food and music. 

Barcelona, host of the SeaWilding Conference 2025 

The SeaWilding Conference 2025 is part of the official programme for the United Nations’ Ocean Decade. It is the first international, interdisciplinary conference on the state of our oceans ever to be held in Spain.  

The participants in the event – which will take place from 23 to 25 October at the University of Barcelona’s Biology Faculty and the Auditori Vèrtex on the Polytechnic University of Catalonia-BarcelonaTech’s (UPC) North Campus – will include research teams, professionals and key stakeholders in the conservation and restoration of our oceans. 

Until 2 November, Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo is offering a special programme featuring new performances starring its most terrifying characters 

Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo has kicked off its most spine-tingling season of the year: the Halloween shows. Once again, to welcome the arrival of autumn, the park is unveiling a fresh line-up of performances starring its most fearsome characters. Zombies, the staff of Hotel 666 and even Tibidabo’s mascots are all set to conjure up unforgettable days of fright and fun.

Until 2 November, visitors to Tibidabo can enjoy The Last Dance, a chilling zombie performance where dance, music and sheer terror take centre stage. The show is held on every day the park is open, in Plaça dels Somnis, just before closing time – a hauntingly memorable way to bid guests farewell. Last weekend, more than 1,500 TibiClub members attended the preview of this brand-new Halloween show. 

During this spooky season, visitors will also encounter Murphy, a mysterious violinist who returns to the park each year at this time, filling the air with his ghostly melodies. Every evening, Tibidabo’s mascots will also surprise guests with a Halloween-themed performance in Plaça del Jardí. 

Another attraction that has embraced the Halloween spirit is Beyond, the park’s immersive virtual reality space, which this season invites visitors to experience Traumatika for themselves.

The Port Olímpic is hosting a new edition of its Dissabte Blau family festival on Saturday, 6 September. The free event for all ages will be held at the Moll de Mestral wharf. 

Magic takes centre stage in this edition with Màgia Xixaraxera, a fast-paced, innovative and interactive Xaxi Espectacles show, where young and old can enjoy Xaxi Xixarrus’s sleight of hand and humour starting at 12 noon. 

But first, at 11.15 am, participants will be able to check out the Invertebrates: A World to Discover workshop, an interactive activity to discover the surprising diversity of these small marine animals, often overlooked yet essential for ecosystems.

As with previous editions, other activities for visitors to enjoy include handicraft workshops, board games, a reading corner and water games. 

The meeting analysed the current state of the coast and the impact of global warming, as well as recent work at the Port Olímpic which has made it possible to recover over 120 marine species 

The Plogging Congress has organised a waste clearing exercise at the Nova Icària beach at 10 am tomorrow, Saturday, open to everybody  

Friday saw the Port Olímpic host the first day of the Plogging Congress, the sustainability and marine pollution meeting organised by BSM and the Fundació Climent Guitart. The choice of the new Port Olímpic as the venue for the first Barcelona edition of the event reflects the Port’s reputation as a role model for sustainability with a strong commitment to regenerating marine biodiversity. 

During the first day, some sixty science and sustainability professionals, as well as companies and organisations, shared their expertise regarding the current state of the Barcelona coast and the Mediterranean in general, and the effects of marine pollution. 
The deputy director-general for Clients, Strategy and Transformation at BSM, Miriam Plaza, welcomed participants along with the director of the Port Olímpic, Olga Cerezo. “The latest Copernicus Report reminds us that the ocean is suffering a triple crisis – warming, loss of diversity and pollution – and that the Mediterranean is warming twice as quickly as the global average”, said Plaza.  This situation “calls on us to act: it’s not about just discussing sustainability; we have to grasp that our future depends on the water around us”.

University of Barcelona biologist Joandomènec Ros i Aragonès then talked about the current state of the oceans and the social and environmental challenges that scientists and the general public must tackle. Andrea Comaposada, founder of the Anèl·lides association; Xavier Salvador, researcher at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) – CSIC; Mikel Ortiz, director of sustainability with World2meet, and Manel Salvador, environmental specialist at the Federació Catalana d’Activitats Subaquàtiques (FECDAS) had a conversation on the threats and impact of climate change in the Mediterranean. 

Next, the director of Zoo de Barcelona, Antoni Alarcon, and marine biologist and former director of the Aquàrium de Barcelona, Patrici Bultó, discussed everything that can still be done to change course and fight the effects of global warming and human activity in general on the Barcelona coast and the Mediterranean. “Only with a global transformation and the involvement of everybody –government, businesses, scientists and the public– will we be able to tackle the impact of climate change on the marine environment in time”, said Alarcon. He also gave a message of hope, citing the results of initiatives carried out in the Port Olímpic area in recent years. “The mooring of artificial reefs and the submersion of gabions in 2024, together with the natural integration and greening of the concrete blocks of the sea wall in 2021 have helped recover over 120 marine species in less than a year”. 

In addition to the speeches and round tables, the meeting also offered a chance to learn about initiatives and actions that groups and organisations such as the Barcelona Forum District, the Eurofirms Foundation and the Bluewave Alliance are carrying out to help clean seas and oceans. 

Barcelona’s first edition of the Plogging Congress concluded with remarks from the corporate director of ESG and Integrated Management Systems at BSM, David Serrano, who stressed the importance of a change of habits to make a world with fewer plastics possible. “Worldwide, a quantity of plastic equivalent to one lorry is dumped every minute. That’s eight million tonnes a year”, said Serrano. “Through the fish we eat, we’re ingesting one credit card’s worth of plastic each week”.

On Saturday, the Plogging Congress will open up to the public and invite everyone to help clean the sand, surface water and seabed at the Nova Icària beach from 10 am to 12 noon. 

In addition to volunteers from the general public, the waste collection activity, supported by the Bluewave Alliance, ISDIN and Caser Grupo Helvetia, will also involve members of the Centre Municipal de Vela (CMV), the Barcelona Diving Club, the Club Esportiu Mossos d’Esquadra (CEME), the Secció d’Activitats Subaquàtiques dels Bombers de Barcelona (SAS) and others. 

Also on Saturday, the Moll de Mestral wharf at the Port Olímpic will be hosting a new edition of Dissabte Blau, the Port’s family festival. Free sea-inspired workshops and activities for all ages will start at 11 am. Options include craft activities, a reading corner and new workshops organised by Zoo de Barcelona. 

Dissabte Blau will round off its October edition with a Xavi Xixarrus show featuring music, dance and laughter. The show will take place at the Moll de Mestral wharf at 1 pm.

Open to everybody, the clean-up mainly collected plastics and wipes from the sand and the water 

Organised by BSM and the Fundació Climent Guitart, the first Barcelona edition of the Plogging Congress concluded by inviting people to take part in a cleaning exercise on the Nova Icària beach, by the Port Olímpic. 

With the help of Bluewave Alliance, ISDIN and Caser Grupo Helvetia, the clean-up brought together fifty volunteers who combed the sand, the water and the seabed in search of any type of waste from 10 am to 12 noon. 

In addition to the volunteers, the clean-up also involved members from the Centre Municipal de Vela (CMV), the Barcelona Diving Club, the Club Esportiu Mossos d’Esquadra (CEME) and other organisations. 

An initial estimate put the volume of waste collected at 168 kilos, mainly plastics, plastic bottles and wipes. A supermarket trolley was one of the most surprising objects found.   

“Actions like this highlight the urgent need to change the global model”, said David Serrano, corporate director of ESG and Integrated Management Systems at BSM. “We need to embrace materials with a minimal environmental impact, reuse more and be fully aware that bags, bottles or plastic lids that end up in the sea or in nature take between 10 and 450 years to disintegrate, polluting the environment in the process”. 

The event culminated with a new edition of Dissabte Blau, the Port Olímpic’s family festival. The festival included free sea-inspired workshops and activities for all ages, plus a show by Xaxi Xixarrus offering music, dance and laughter.
