Performed by a quartet of students from the Conservatori Liceu, the concert will take place at the Moll de Mestral in Port Olímpic on Saturday, 12 July, at 7.30 pm

Port Olímpic is hosting a new concert at 7.30 pm on Saturday, 12 July, as part of the KBr Live series. This cultural programme is part of an agreement between BSM, Fundació MAPFRE and the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) to bring photography and the performing arts to the new Port Olímpic. 

The concert, with free admission, will be held at the Moll de Mestral and performed by a quartet of students from the Conservatori Liceu. The concert is inspired by the exhibition on the work of Edward Weston, currently on show at the KBr photography centre run by the Fundació MAPFRE. 

The quartet is made up of Daniel Roman (vocals), Roger Castells (drums), Ot Granados (double bass) and Sebastian Noren (guitar). They will perform a selection of the most significant jazz standards, evoking the era and experiences that inspired the black and white images by the American photographer.

Family activities to introduce children to the language of photography

In addition to concerts by the Conservatori Liceu and the dance performance by the Institut del Teatre, the “Kbr Live al Port Olímpic” programme also includes a series of free morning activities for families. 

The activities run until Saturday, 26 July, and offer families with children aged from 7 to 12 the chance to explore the key elements of photographic language, combining a visit to the exhibition at the KBr centre with outdoor activities and a workshop. These activities have a limited capacity and require advance booking. 

This endemic animal is threatened by the presence of invasive species in its natural habitat

Born on 25 June, the first baby Ibiza wall lizards at the Zoo are part of the pilot ex situ breeding project launched by the Balearic Island Government’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Environment. The new lizards come from three populations created at the Zoo de Barcelona in May, from 17 individuals originating from the islands of Ibiza and Formentera.  

In all, 12 individuals were born from five different batches following an incubation period of 42 days. These are the first ex situ reproduction groups for this species. 

After they were born, the hatchlings were identified by staff at the Zoo de Barcelona. Having checked they were in good health, they were transferred to terrariums suitable for reptiles of this size and a controlled environment to ensure their well-being and development.

At birth, the lizards weighed between 0.6 and 0.8 grammes and proved to be very active, accepting food immediately. This behaviour indicates a good state of general health and a rapid adaptation to their new environment.

This reproductive success strengthens the Zoo’s role as a leading centre for breeding and conservation of threatened fauna, at the same time reaffirming its commitment with the biodiversity of the Balearics and the protection of Mediterranean natural heritage.
 
An alliance to guarantee the survival of this threatened endemic species

The birth of these Ibiza wall lizard hatchlings comes within the context of the collaboration agreement signed in 2024 between the Zoo de Barcelona and the government of the Balearic Islands for the conservation of the protected wild fauna on the islands. Under this agreement, both institutions have been working since May on a pilot project to create a reserve population of lizards under human care, complementing the in situ conservation measures and guaranteeing the species’ survival in the face of the growing threat from invasive species such as the horseshoe whip snake (Hemorrhois hipocrepis). 

The Ibiza wall lizard is one of the most iconic species native to the Pityusic Islands. Today, the introduction of invasive species, such as snakes, which prey on these lizards, threatens their survival. Due to this situation, in 2023, two lizard species found on the Balearic Islands were listed as Vulnerable in the Balearic Catalogue of Endangered Species: the Lilford’s wall lizard (Podarcis lilfordi) and the Ibiza wall lizard (Podarcis pityusensis).

The foundation will be awarding nearly 75,000 euros in funding for projects to study wildlife and biodiversity

A record 39 applications were submitted in this year’s edition

The Fundació Barcelona Zoo has awarded five grants to projects for research, conservation, protection and preservation of wild animals and biodiversity. Part of the foundation’s Research and Conservation Programme (PRIC), this year’s edition attracted a record number of applications. A panel made up of leading professionals from the scientific community assessed a total of 39 applications. The winning projects will receive a total amount of 73,425 euros.  

In this 16th edition, one of the factors taken into account in the selection of the winning projects was the leadership of young pre- or post-doctoral researchers. For the Barcelona Zoo, the goal of these grants is to support the development of their research careers, particularly in a context where it is essential to drive generational turnover by getting new generations interested in this discipline. 

Mediterranean ecosystems and fauna, the focus of the winning projects

The projects selected in this edition mainly focus on the study of Mediterranean ecosystems and fauna, as well as research into animal welfare. When choosing the projects, special consideration was given to those combining approaches from disciplines such as biology and medicine, and those that have applications in species conservation and welfare.
Barcelona Zoo, committed to biodiversity

Scientific research and dissemination are strategic priorities for the Zoo. In this respect, the annual grants from the foundation are well-established as a key tool for promoting scientific knowledge and raising awareness about the importance of preserving ecosystems.

The grants represent a strong commitment to collaborating with young researchers, institutions and expert organisations, strengthening both in-house and collaborative research and conservation projects that seek to protect the planet’s most vulnerable species.

List of studies receiving grants: 

• Epidemiological study of leishmaniasis at the Barcelona Zoo: terrestrial wildlife in captivity, synanthropic murids and their vectors.
• Ungulate cognition and welfare.
• Study of the decline in small mammal populations in Catalonia using new technologies.
• Research and management for the conservation of the Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus) at the confluence of the Segre and Noguera Pallaresa rivers.
• Understanding early adversity in non-human primates: impact on their mental health and strategies for improving their well-being.

On Saturday 5 July, Moll de Mestral at Port Olímpic will host a programme of workshops, activities and a musical performance—perfect for spending a morning by the sea with the family

This Saturday, 5 July, Port Olímpic will host a new edition of Dissabte Blau, the family event that continues to welcome the public to the new port. 

From 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, Moll de Mestral will host free workshops, games and activities designed for families to enjoy a morning by the sea. Activities include crafts, reading areas and drawing materials, with the aim of fostering learning and imagination among participating children, as well as the new addition of water games.   

As in previous editions, there will be a performance at 12.00 noon: in this case, a disco-themed musical and theatrical show by Xaxi Xixarrus and his companion DJ Refrescos. that recounts the two performers’ adventures on their way to the beach.  

Dissabte Blau will return with new editions in September, October and November. 

Of the thirty new stations, a total of eight have been installed in hillside neighbourhoods to support the expansion of the service in these areas of the city

With this expansion there are now 557 operational stations in the city and 5,000 electric bicycles available 

Bicing continues to implement its network expansion plan by launching 30 new stations across the city. As it opens these stations, which will be fully operational by the end of July, the public bicycle-sharing service has reached its target of expanding the fleet to 8,000 bicycles.  

With this expansion of the network, there are now 557 operational stations and 5,000 electric bicycles available. Bicing is thus meeting the gradual increase in demand for the service year after year and is enhancing the experience for users, who are increasingly choosing electric models because of their convenience. In fact, according to internal records, 80% of Bicing journeys are made using an electric bicycle. 

 ‘With this expansion, Bicing is consolidating its role as an essential sustainable mobility service in the city. Reaching 8,000 bicycles and continuing to expand the network is a clear step towards a better-connected, healthier Barcelona that is ready to rise to future challenges,’ said the President of BSM and First Deputy Mayor of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, Laia Bonet. 

This expansion is part of the municipal government's budget agreement with the ERC municipal group. 

It enables the service to reach new areas and strengthens the connection between neighbourhoods

The thirty new stations are part of the expansion plan for 74 stations currently being rolled out by Bicing, the public bicycle-sharing service managed by BSM on behalf of the Ajuntament de Barcelona. This expansion, which is expected to be completed in 2026, is being spearheaded with the aim of improving connections between neighbourhoods, meeting demand in the areas of the city with the highest usage and extending the service to hillside neighbourhoods. 

The new docking points are located in the following neighbourhoods: 

• 10 in Eixample
• 6 in Sant Martí 
• 6 in Horta-Guinardó 
• 4 in Sarrià–Sant Gervasi 
• 2 in Les Corts 
• 1 in Gràcia 
• 1 in Sants-Montjuïc 

A total of eight of these stations are located in hillside neighbourhoods. Nearly one-third of the expansion is therefore focused on strengthening the service in these areas. Specifically, three of the new stations are located in the Sarrià–Sant Gervasi neighbourhood and five in Horta-Guinardó.

The First Deputy Mayor, Laia Bonet, acknowledged that ‘reaching new areas, especially those located in hillside neighbourhoods, is a yet another step in bringing the service closer to more residents and expands its coverage in a more equitable and efficient way’.

A service that continues to break usage and subscriber records

Bicing continues to consolidate its position as a leading international bicycle-sharing service, with a steady year-on-year increase in both usage and subscriber numbers. In fact, the number of users increased by 7% in the first half of 2025 alone.
Similarly, this June, Bicing reached 100 million cumulative journeys since the launch of the new Bicing in 2019.  These figures reinforce Bicing’s position as a key service for present and future sustainable urban mobility in the city of Barcelona.

The programme, led by BSM and the Barcelona History Museum, includes three concerts and three film screenings, all free of charge when booking in advance

There will also be guided tours about the history of the park and its rich heritage

Park Güell is kicking off its summer cultural programme with Barcelona History Museum. This series of evening concerts and outdoor cinema screenings in the Plaça de la Natura is an opportunity for city residents to enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage Site while further exploring the city’s musical and cinematic heritage.

All performances and screenings are free of charge, with booking in advance on the Barcelona History Museum website. 

Violins take centre stage in the Plaça de la Natura concert series  

The “Park Güell, violins and Barcelona” series will get started with a chamber concert to celebrate the Year of Juli Garreta, with Jofre Bardolet (violin) and Marc Heredia (piano). It will take place on Thursday 26 June at 8:30 p.m. 

The music series will continue on 3 July with a performance by Violinaires, featuring Anaïs Falcó (vocals and violin), Roser Serrano (vocals and violin), Quico Pugès (cello), Patri Garcia (vocals and percussion), Xavi Rota (vocals and guitar) and Cati Plana (diatonic accordion). This dynamic concert will get the audience dancing and explore the role of traditional violins in contemporary folk, reinterpreting historical pieces with a modern and lively take. 

And the cherry on the cake will be the Albert Bello & Oriol Saña Quartet, on 10 July, with a journey of sound featuring the songs of early 20th-century Barcelona, and focusing on classic jazz manouche. The quartet is made up of: Albert Bello (guitar), Oriol Saña (violin), Quim Martínez (rhythm guitar) and Joan Motera (double bass). 

Each of the concerts will also include an opening presentation, led by Joaquim Rabaseda, Anaís Falcó and Jaime del Blanco, respectively, that offers more context for the pieces you will hear. 

Three outdoor cinema screenings from a female perspective

This year’s “Barcelona en moviment” outdoor cinema series focuses on the perspective of three female directors and their contribution to Barcelona’s cinematic narratives. All the showings will be at 9:30 p.m. 
The series will start on Saturday 28 June, with a screening of Marta Balletbò-Coll’s Costa Brava (1995). The film takes place in post-Olympic Barcelona and tells the story of a tour guide who dreams of success in the world of stand-up comedy, overcoming a breakup and finding love again. This film will be screened in its original English and subtitled in Spanish.

On Friday 4 July, it will be time for Laura Ferrés’s La imatge permanent (2023), in which Carmen, an advertising photographer searching for “authentic” people on the outskirts of Barcelona, becomes interested in the personal stories of the women around her.

And the series will come to an end on 11 July with Anaïs Pareto Onghena’s Santa Barbara (2022), about a Bolivian immigrant in Barcelona whose life is going well until her teenage son, whom she has not seen for years, arrives in the city.

The three screenings will be presented by the series coordinator, Cèlia Marin Vega.

Guided tours on the history and heritage of Park Güell 

The summer cultural programme at Park Güell will be rounded off with several guided tours and itineraries on a wide variety of themes, such as literary heritage, sustainability, creativity, Gaudí’s skill, Güell’s vision and how the park interacts with the surrounding neighbourhoods and the city. 

These activities, also led by BSM and Barcelona History Museum, are geared towards Barcelona residents, with a view to making Gaudí’s work more accessible to them and sharing recent research findings.
On 26 June, the “Park Güell and water. From a bare mountain to a city garden”, will analyse how Gaudí and Güell addressed water systems in their housing development project, at a time when the water management model was shifting. There will also be sessions on 20 July, 23 August and 28 September, at different times. The visit costs €2 and must be booked in advance on the Barcelona History Museum website.

A series of free shows inspired by the exhibitions showing at the KBr Centre and performed by students from the Conservatori Liceu and the Institut del Teatre.

Starting this Thursday, Port Olímpic will host the photography exhibition “Joan Andreu Puig Farran: the turbulent decade (1929-1939)” by KBr Fundación MAPFRE. The free exhibition, at Moll de Mestral, forms part of the collaboration agreement between BSM, Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to bring photography and the performing arts to the new Port Olímpic. 

Specifically, it consists of 22 images selected from the exhibition by the Lleida-based graphic reporter Puig Farran (Lleida, 1904 – Barcelona, 1982) that can be visited at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE photography centre until 31 August. Puig Farran's photographs are a reflection of society in a time of intense social and political unrest. 

Joan Andreu Puig Farran: the turbulent decade (1929-1939)

“Joan Andreu Puig Farran: the turbulent decade (1929-1939)” is the first exhibition dedicated to the photographer from Lleida who set up in Barcelona in 1920, Puig Farran. 

The exhibition, curated by Arnau Gonzàlez i Vilalta and Toni Monné Campañà, is made up of a selection of photographs, developed for this KBr Fundación MAPFRE exhibition from the glass plates preserved by artist's heirs and a large number of original copies preserved in the documentary collections of the La Vanguardia newspaper. It also features a series of publications from the time, in which photographs by Puig Farran can be seen.

A photographer active in Catalonia in the 1930s, Joan Andreu Puig Farran (Lleida, 1904 – Barcelona, 1982) never got to exhibit his works, although his photographs were published in magazines and newspapers.

Starting in 1929, he worked as a photojournalist for several Catalan newspapers (La Humanitat, Esplai, El Matí, L’Opinió and La Vanguardia). Following the outbreak of the Civil War, he travelled to the fronts in Aragon and Mallorca. At the end of the conflict, he went into exile in France. He returned to Barcelona in 1945, but he could no longer practice photojournalism and was forced to dedicate himself to advertising and tourist photography, working for brands such as Codorniu or Gallina Blanca. It was then that he created the well-known CYP postage stamp, with his friend Antoni Campañà.

The cultural programme of the KBr Live cycle goes on 

During the summer months, KBr Live will be offering its usual programme of concerts and dance at the Moll de Mestral wharf in the Port Olímpic. A series of free shows inspired by the exhibitions showing at the KBr Centre and performed by students from the Conservatori Liceu and the Institut del Teatre. 

This Saturday 21 June, at 7.30 pm, Moll de Mestral will also host the show “Imatges en moviment” featuring dance students from the Jove Companyia IT Dansa and the Professional Dance Conservatory at the Institut del Teatre. The performance is inspired by the exhibition “Edward Weston. La matèria de les formes” which can also be visited at the KBr photography centre. 

This Sunday, 22 June, Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo will host a special programme to mark the 10th anniversary of its mascots: Ti, Bi, Da and Bo

The park will also launch its summer season on the same day, expanding the Festival of Emotions line-up and introducing updates to the Merlí attraction, including a new ascent format and separate ticket 

Parc d’atraccions Tibidabo is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its mascots – Ti, Bi, Da and Bo – this Sunday, 22 June. The occasion will include a party for TibiClub members and the première of a new show starring the mascots. 

To celebrate the anniversary, and for one time only, the park will open an hour earlier than usual, at 10 am, exclusively for TibiClub members. Ti, Bi, Da and Bo will be there to welcome members at this time, who will be able to take photos with them. At 10.45 am, the Plaça dels Somnis will host the première of the park’s new show, and once the performance has ended, all attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments and take a family photo with the mascots. 

Shortly afterwards, at 11 am, the park will open to other visitors, who will also be able to take family photos with the mascots on the veranda at the Plaça dels Somnis. 

The new mascot show will be available to all visitors from 24 June. 

Ti, Bi, Da and Bo – the four mascots of Parc d’atraccions Tibidabo  

Tibidabo’s mascots are a group of four animals created in 2015 through an open call for ideas. They were selected as the winning entry from more than 60 submissions by a jury made up of members, children and representatives of Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo, Barcelona City Council and UNICEF, along with renowned artists.  

The mascots are four animals who were born in Collserola and chose to settle at Tibidabo. Although they are four very different species, they get along extremely well and are always ready to help one another. 

Ti, the yellow one, is an oriole – a species of bird. He’s known for being mischievous and loves playing pranks on children. Bi, the green one, is a salamander. She’s known for her passion for reading and learning. Da, the orange one, is a cheerful, outgoing and adventurous fox. And Bo, the blue one, is a rather clumsy and greedy wild boar.

All four are also close friends of UNICEF, with whom Tibidabo has been collaborating since 2012. Thanks to this long-standing partnership, Ti, Bi, Da and Bo also champion children’s rights, representing values such as participation, the right to education, the right to play and the right to development. 

The Festival of Emotions expands its line-up with circus, clowns, music and dance 

This Sunday, Tibidabo will also launch its summer season. Over the next two months, new shows will be offered as part of the Festival of Emotions, the evening programme that closes the park each day. 

On Sunday at 7.30 pm, the Plaça dels Somnis will host the circus and acrobatics show “Silvia&Guga”, with a new performance every weekend. The line-up will include touring shows, clowns, music and dance. Full details can be found on the Tibidabo website: www.tibidabo.cat. 

The park’s much-loved puppet theatre, The Marionetarium, is also presenting its summer show: “Cabrioles de fil”. Inspired by the circus, this new performance will, for the first time, feature up to nine puppets on stage at the same time.  

From 25 June, the park will also begin its summer schedule, opening from Wednesday to Sunday with extended hours. In July, it will open from 11 am to 10 pm at weekends, and throughout August, it will close at 10 pm on all open days. 

Merlí free-fall ride now with panoramic ascent and a separate ticket

Another major new feature of Tibidabo’s summer season is the introduction of a new way to enjoy Merlí, the free-fall ride launched last summer. 

Starting this weekend, the ride will include a spiral ascent, offering panoramic views of Barcelona on the way up. At the top, the 360-degree rotation will remain before the free fall. 

Tibidabo is also launching a new dedicated ticket exclusively for Merlí. This new ticket will cost €10 and will allow access to the free-fall ride on any day the park is open. 

Increasing the charging time to 60 minutes and enabling two vehicles to charge simultaneously enhances the user experience and makes daily electric vehicle use easier across the city 

Endolla Barcelona has also recently opened up to customers of electromobility operator Plugsurfing, who can now access over 1,000 charging points in the network without registering for the service

Endolla Barcelona has introduced two new features designed to improve the user experience by making electric vehicle charging simpler, more convenient and more efficient. These changes further the public electromobility network’s its mission to support city residents in the transition to electric mobility.

First, Endolla Barcelona has extended the maximum charging time at on-street charging points to 60 minutes. This new 30-minute increase offers users greater flexibility and peace of mind and makes it easier for them to charge their vehicles during their commutes. In addition, with the aim of improving efficiency and reducing waiting times, from the end of June, Endolla Barcelona will also offer the option to charge two electric vehicles simultaneously at the same point.

Both measures were developed in response to some of the key concerns of electric vehicle users and potential adopters – namely range and trip planning.

“These improvements further consolidate Endolla Barcelona as a strategic public infrastructure operator that supports the transition to electric mobility, with a clear focus on user comfort and service accessibility,” said the Chair of BSM and First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council, Laia Bonet. “With each new development, Endolla Barcelona helps strengthen Barcelona’s position as a European leader for electromobility, offering a public network tailored to the real needs of its users”.

Interoperability as a roadmap for promoting electric mobility

Managed by BSM, Endolla Barcelona is one of the leading public electromobility networks in southern Europe. Convenience, accessibility and proximity are fundamental principles of its management model. In this context, the network has established agreements with other electromobility operators, enabling their customers to locate and use Endolla Barcelona charging points via their usual mobile apps, without the need to register separately for the service.

The most recent company to partner with Endolla Barcelona is Plugsurfing, adding to a list that includes Etecnics, New Motion (Shell), Iberdrola, Electromaps, Wenea, Zunder, Repsol, Letmecharge, Telpark, Coves and Chargepoint (Has to be). Customers of all these providers can now easily locate, activate and pay for charging at any of Endolla Barcelona’s 1,027 points using their regular mobile app.

Over the past year, the number of charging sessions by external users on the network has risen by 69%. This openness makes Endolla Barcelona a public service that prioritises users, offering them the best possible experience when charging their vehicle.
With these latest improvements and a firm commitment to interoperability, Endolla Barcelona is solidifying its role as a key enabler of electric mobility in the city. By delivering a service that is increasingly accessible, streamlined and integrated, BSM’s public electromobility network not only meets the needs of current users but also helps eliminate barriers to the wider adoption of electric vehicles.
