The new Zone 35 in the green AREA will come into operation on 10 November to regulate parking, promote more sustainable mobility, and improve accessibility and quality of life for residents in a more orderly, environmentally friendly setting

From 10 November, Barcelona will extend its green zone parking scheme to the Canyelles neighbourhood in the Nou Barris district. The aim is to optimise use of public space and prioritise access for local residents, who will benefit from greater parking space availability. In total, the new regulated parking zone will comprise 905 spaces.

The measure is designed to manage demand for on-street parking while supporting sustainable mobility, ultimately making the neighbourhood a tidier, more accessible and more environmentally friendly area. It prioritises parking for residents, ensuring better availability of spaces near their homes and encouraging a fairer balance with non-resident vehicles.

Experiences in other city neighbourhoods has shown that regulated parking is an effective tool for prioritising residents, ensuring they have spaces and reducing the presence of outside vehicles. It also helps to cut down on traffic violations thanks to stricter control within regulated hours, and prevents unwanted situations such as the neighbourhood being used as a car park for workers from other areas or for vehicles coming from outside the city and heading into the centre.

New Zone 35

This new regulated area will be bordered by Plaça de Karl Marx, Ronda de la Guineueta Vella, Via Favència and Carrer de l’Artesania. Parking spaces within the new Zone 35, marked with green paint, will be reserved primarily for residents. Non-resident vehicles may only park for a maximum of two hours, within the regulated hours indicated on the corresponding roadside signs. 

These new green spaces are complemented by 26 blue zone spaces, 456 for motorbikes and 23 for vehicles involved in urban goods distribution. Plots of land that have not yet been developed and that are currently used as temporary free car parks will remain unregulated.

Information for residents

All residents covered by this expansion who own a vehicle registered at their home address will be entitled to park in the duly signposted Zone 35 green spaces at the corresponding resident rate according to their vehicle’s environmental label.

Residents officially registered in the zone who already own a private vehicle also registered in Barcelona will not need to take any action. From 27 October, they will receive a letter by post about their resident zone together with a leaflet explaining how to use resident parking.

New residents registered within the boundaries of this expansion, as well as existing residents who use a company, rental, leasing or long-term hire vehicle, can apply for resident parking rights via the Barcelona City Council Virtual Office, by calling 010, or in person (by appointment) at the BSM Citizen Service Point.

Obtaining parking permits

Residents are advised to use the ‘Residents Barcelona’ service within the SMOU app to obtain their on-street parking permits. Through this service, permits can be obtained for time periods ranging from one day up to the end of the year. As the permit is digital, it can be securely verified in real time by enforcement officers’ devices. This means there is no need to use a parking meter or place any sticker or paper permit in the vehicle. If required, however, a receipt of payment can be printed.

In addition, non-residents can also use the SMOU mobile app to obtain digital on-street parking permits for both green and blue zone spaces. 

On 3 and 4 October, Barcelona will for the first time host this congress on sustainability and coastal cleaning

Maritime and sustainability professionals will meet on Friday to analyse the current state of the Barcelona coast, while on Saturday members of the public will be able to help clean the beach and the seabed

For the first time, Barcelona will host the Plogging Congress, the leading event on sustainability and sea pollution. Organised by BSM and the Fundació Climent Guitart, the meeting will be held at the Port Olímpic on 3 and 4 October and represents another step in the Port’s commitment to sustainability and the regeneration of the seabed. 

The Plogging Congress will get under way on Friday, 3 October, with a programme of talks and round tables featuring maritime and sustainability companies, institutions and professionals. Participants include the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) – CSIC, Zoo de Barcelona and the Federació Catalana d’Activitats Subaquàtiques (FECDAS). The sessions will be held in the Sala Mestral at the Port Olímpic from 9 am to 1.30 pm. 

The next day, Saturday 4 October, the Plogging Congress will open to the public and invite everyone to help clean the sand, water surface and seabed at Nova Icària Beach. The cleanup will start at 10 am and the meeting point for participants on foot will be the entrance to the Nova Icària Beach located at the Moll de Gregal wharf. 

In parallel, members of the Centre Municipal de Vela (CMV), the Barcelona Diving Club, the Club Esportiu Mossos d’Esquadra (CEME) and the Secció d’Activitats Subaquàtiques dels Bombers de Barcelona (SAS), as well as others, will also be collecting watse in the water and on the seabed at the same beach. 

Also on Saturday, the Moll de Mestral wharf at the Port Olímpic will be hosting a new edition of Dissabte Blau, the Port’s family festival. Free sea-inspired workshops and activities for all ages will start at 11 am. Options include craft activities, a reading corner and new workshops organised by Zoo de Barcelona. 

Dissabte Blau rounds off its October edition with a Xavi Xixarrus. show featuring music, dance and laughter. The show will take place at the Moll de Mestral wharf at 1 pm.

The free photography exhibition at the Moll de Gregal wharf forms part of the partnership between BSM, Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to bring photography and the performing arts to the new Port Olímpic

Port Olímpic is hosting KBr Fundación MAPFRE’s photography exhibition on the US artist Helen Levitt, which is on through January. The free exhibition at the Moll de Gregal wharf forms part of the collaboration agreement between BSM, Fundación MAPFRE and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to bring photography and the performing arts to the new Port Olímpic.

The display offers a selection of images from the exhibition on the work of Helen Levitt (New York City, 1913 - 2009), one of the most urban photographers of the 20th century. The photos on display at Port Olímpic offer a taste of Levitt’s visual universe, sensitively capturing the mood of everyday life in the streets of working-class New York neighbourhoods such as Spanish Harlem and Lower East Side.

During the months that the exhibition is on, KBr will continue to offer its usual programme of concerts with Conservatori Liceu students, featuring music inspired by Helen Levitt’s photography.

Helen Levitt: the poetic dimension of urban life

The full exhibition, on at the KBr Fundación MAPFRE from 24 September, covers Levitt’s career from her beginnings in the 1930s through to her innovative colour photos of the 1960s. Influenced by figures such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Walker Evans, Levitt developed her own lyrical and empathic style, eschewing conventional photojournalism, to explore the poetic dimension of urban life.

Her images, particularly those portraying children playing in the street, tell a visual story about US society, where the street becomes a setting for community life. In addition to photography, Levitt also made a name for herself in the world of documentaries, collaborating with the likes of Luis Buñuel and James Agee on films such as The Quiet One and In the Street, which influenced later generations of film-makers.

With this display at the Moll de Gregal wharf, Port Olímpic is continuing to establish itself as a cultural space open to the city, where photography becomes a tool for reflection and connecting with urban life.

The two institutions are launching new measures as part of this pilot project, which involves the ex situ breeding of specimens of this lizard from the islets off Ibiza

Zoo de Barcelona and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and the Environment of the Government of the Balearic Islands are taking a further step to protect the Ibiza wall lizard (Podarcis pityusensis), one of the Balearic Islands’ most iconic species, which is seriously endangered.

The two institutions are launching a new stage of the ex situ breeding project launched in June, which will include the ex situ breeding of specimens from the islets of Ibiza, which are particularly threatened by invasive snakes. The decision was taken on Monday in a technical meeting held at the Zoo and strengthens a pioneering strategy that combines conservation, research and direct action in the field.

The pilot project for the ex situ breeding of the Ibiza wall lizard, launched by Zoo de Barcelona and the Government of the Balearic Islands, aims to guarantee the conservation of this endemic species and preserve the biodiversity of the Balearic Islands. 

This spring, 17 healthy and genetically diverse individuals were caught (10 from Ibiza and 7 from Formentera) and transferred to the Zoo de Barcelona, to become the first reproductive specimens of the ex situ populations. The first offspring were born in July: 12 lizards from 5 different clutches, with an incubation period of 42 days. This success confirmed the feasibility of the project.

“The detection of invasive snakes on the islets off the coast of Ibiza poses a serious threat to the Ibiza wall lizard, which has no defence mechanisms against this predator,” said Anna Torres, the director-general of the Environment and Forestry Management. This new scenario has led to the expansion of the project with the goal of preventing the loss of particularly vulnerable populations. This way we can proactively counter a real threat, with the support of a leading institution such as Zoo de Barcelona”. 

The director of Zoo de Barcelona, Antoni Alarcon, also welcomed the agreement and reaffirmed “the Zoo’s commitment to managing lizard populations as one of the most important conservation programmes that it is currently working on outside of Catalonia”.

Over these 35 years, 26.8 million people have enjoyed more than 2,500 events held at Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club 

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in the number of concerts as a result of the global boom in live music and major shows 

This Sunday, 21 September, marks 35 years since the opening of Palau Sant Jordi. The venue, conceived for the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games and designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, was handed over to the city on 21 September 1990 in an official ceremony that highlighted its advanced technology, the materials used and its versatility of uses. It was a space created and prepared from the outset to host all sorts of sporting activities, as well as major events such as concerts, operas, fairs and conferences.

Following that official presentation, there were three days of open days under the slogan “Come and see the greatest show on earth”, which gave the people of Barcelona the opportunity to discover what would become one of the main Olympic venues and, without doubt, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. A total of 270,000 people attended.

In the words of Isozaki, Palau Sant Jordi, together with its annexed hall – now the Sant Jordi Club – was intended to have “a universal character”, and so it has proved. According to the First Deputy Mayor and President of BSM, Laia Bonet, “35 years on, Palau Sant Jordi and the Anella Olímpica as a whole remain a benchmark for sporting events and, above all, a key stage for the live music sector, with a permanent programme of concerts by national and international artists of every style.  And all of it under public leadership.” 

As a public company of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, BSM took over the management of the Anella Olímpica in 2003 by mandate of the City Council. Since then, it has consolidated the Anella Olímpica as an international reference point in culture, sport and entertainment. Its experience and professionalism have been key to preserving the Olympic legacy and putting it at the service of the public and of Barcelona’s global standing.

More than 2,500 events and 26.8 million attendees 

Since it opened, Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club have hosted more than 2,500 events, attracting 26.8 million people. Almost half of these events (45%) have been concerts, followed by fairs and corporate events (35%), major sporting fixtures (13%), and other events such as family shows or film shoots (7%).

Live music is by far the fastest-growing type of event over the years. In the last decade, 7 out of every 10 events held at Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club have been concerts. This is partly due to the shift in the music industry – with the rise of streaming driving demand for tours and concerts over recorded music – and partly thanks to the capacity and versatility of these arenas, which hold 18,400 and 4,600 people respectively, as well as the long-standing relationships the Anella Olímpica has built with more than 40 local and international promoters who make all these events possible.  

A stage open to all audiences and musical styles 

The first artist to perform at Palau Sant Jordi was Luciano Pavarotti. The Italian tenor took to the stage just a few days after the opening ceremony, on 29 September 1990. One of the hallmarks of this arena is the wide variety of musical styles it has welcomed since the very beginning, opening its doors to every audience. Opera, pop, rock, metal, classical, punk... All genres have found a place here, including electronic music, Latin sounds and new trends such as K-pop. 

Palau Sant Jordi has also played an important role in the careers of national artists. For performers such as Rosalía, Rigoberta Bandini, Joan Dausà, Nil Moliner, Oques Grasses, Manuel Carrasco, Lola Índigo and Aitana, it was the first or one of the first major venues where they appeared. Others have made it one of their most frequent stages in Spain: Joaquín Sabina (18 concerts), Alejandro Sanz (16), Estopa (13), Fito & Fitipaldis (12), David Bisbal (11) and Pablo Alborán (10). 

Among international artists, those who have performed most frequently at Palau Sant Jordi are Eros Ramazzotti (11 concerts), Madonna (7), Bryan Adams (7), U2 (7) and Laura Pausini (5).  

There have been many memorable moments on the stages of Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club, but one in particular has gone down in Barcelona’s musical history: the Love of Lesbian concert on 27 March 2021. It was the first large-scale concert of the pandemic era, following a year without live music. 

A venue for a wide range of international sporting events 

Sport has also played a key role in the history of Palau Sant Jordi. Before hosting the gymnastics and volleyball competitions at the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games, it had already staged the international basketball tournament McDonald’s Open (1990).  
These international events were followed by other major competitions such as the World Indoor Athletics Championships (1995), the FIFA Futsal World Cup 1996, the World Swimming Championships (2003–2013), the World Snowboard Championships (2011), the World Handball Championships (2013), the Basketball World Cup (2014) and the World Roller Games Barcelona 2019. 

As with music, what stands out is the variety of sporting disciplines that have been held at Palau Sant Jordi over the years. These have included five-a-side football, American football, tennis, indoor athletics, climbing and judo, as well as handball, taekwondo, kickboxing, trial, enduro and karting, among others.

Also notable were the years when FC Barcelona’s basketball team played its home games at Palau Sant Jordi (1991–1994), along with events such as Dirt Track (1991, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) and Ski Indoor (1992, 1993 and 1995). 

A stage for family shows with deep roots in the city

Family productions have been an integral part of Palau Sant Jordi’s history since the very beginning. Disney On Ice, for example, came to Palau Sant Jordi in 1993 and has since staged 29 editions. It is by far the event that has been held most frequently at the venue. 

Another company that has chosen this stage many times for its shows is Cirque du Soleil, with eight shows at Palau Sant Jordi. 
Another highlight in this field is the Esport i Dansa Ara gathering, the annual event that concludes what is now the educational sports programme with the highest participation among Barcelona’s schools. On that day, thousands of children fill the floor of Palau Sant Jordi and perform, in front of their families and teachers, the dances they have spent months rehearsing at school.  
Around 50 artists will perform at the Anella Olímpica before the end of the year 

The line-up at Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club for the coming months confirms the strong position of these arenas on the national and international live music circuit. Between now and December, around 50 artists will perform here, and for some, this will be their only concert in Spain. 

On the national scene, names set to appear at Palau Sant Jordi before the end of the year include Joaquín Sabina (2 and 4 October), Manuel Carrasco (10 October), Vanesa Martín (25 October), Los Pecos (26 October and 28 December), Leiva (8 November), Antonio Orozco (28 and 29 November), Mónica Naranjo (19 December) and Raphael (20 December). 

As for international tours, highlights include Mora (23 September), with all tickets sold out; Lady Gaga (28, 29 and 31 October), Jamiroquai (6 November) and Mumford & Sons (23 November), who will not be performing anywhere else in Spain; as well as Katy Perry (9 November) and Anuel AA (22 and 26 November).   

Also over the coming months, Sant Jordi Club will host, among many others, Daminano David (21 September), already sold out; Delaossa (4 October), Manuel Turizo (11 October), Los Planetas (17 October), Ojete Calor (25 October), Belén Aguilera (8 November), Lágrimas de Sangre (14 and 15 November), Roxette (16 November), Crystal Fighters (27 November) and Loquillo (27 December). 

In sports, from 11 to 14 December, Palau Sant Jordi will host the Premier Padel Finals, featuring the world’s best padel.   
Looking ahead to 2026, some of the first names confirmed for Anella Olímpica include Fito&Fitipaldis (16 and 17 January), Julieta (13 February), Mikel Izal (20 February), Hans Zimmer (27 March), Pau Vallvé (25 April), Dani Martín (25 April and 24 October), Eros Ramazzotti (2 May), El Último de la Fila (3 and 7 May) and Bad Bunny (22 and 23 May). 

This year marks the third edition of this popular race, organised by Port Olímpic together with the Club de Mar Port Olímpic and the Port Sant Carles Marina de la Ràpita  

This Thursday, Port Olímpic hosted the start of the Polar, the popular regatta organised in collaboration with the Club de Mar Port Olímpic and the Port Sant Carles Marina de la Ràpita. This year is the third edition of this race, which links Barcelona with La Ràpita and through which Port Olímpic contributes to promoting sailing and making it more open and accessible to the public.

The start of the Polar took place at 2 pm from Port Olímpic. A total of 11 boats are taking part, with around 50 people on board from Marina de Badalona, Reial Club Marítim de Barcelona, Club Nàutic Port d’Aro, as well as from Port Olímpic. 

They are expected to sail close to the coast, no more than 12 miles offshore, and arrive this Friday at Port Sant Carles Marina de la Ràpita. In total, they will cover 100 miles. Once in La Ràpita, a prize-giving ceremony will be held for the sailors, who will be welcomed with recreational and sports activities, along with a dinner featuring traditional dishes from the Ebro Delta. 

Port Olímpic’s commitment to bringing sailing closer to the public 

The Polar is part of a series of actions through which Port Olímpic promotes sailing among the public. In this area, initiatives such as Dijous de vent also stand out, a free activity open to everyone that combines sailing with expert skippers from Port Olímpic and a visit to the Balcó Gastronòmic. 

Tomorrow, 23 September, Tibidabo will host the inaugural dinner of this fair, which every year brings together companies and professionals from the theme park sector from over 100 countries 

And on Wednesday 24, Tibidabo will actively contribute to the congress with a conference on the project to promote scientific vocations, Fisidabo, organised by BSM in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC)

Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo is the host park of the IAAPA Expo Europe 2025, the leading congress of the theme park sector, which is taking place at Fira Barcelona Gran Via from 22 to 26 September and is organised by the Global Association for the Attractions Industry (IAAPA). 

Tomorrow, 23 September, Tibidabo will host the inaugural dinner of this professional congress, which every year brings together companies, creators and operators from the theme park sector from over 100 countries. The gathering at the summit of the city will be an opportunity to share knowledge and to continue to drive the future of entertainment with unbeatable views of Barcelona.

This is the 3rd time that the IAAPA Expo Europe 2025 has been held in Barcelona and also the 3rd time that Tibidabo has been the host park.  

On Wednesday, 24 September, Tibidabo will actively take part in the IAAPA Expo Europe 2025 with a conference on one of its flagship educational projects: Fisidabo. The Head of Operations at Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo, Odin Abkarovits, together with Luis Carlos Pardo, a researcher and physics professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), will present this project to promote scientific vocations through entertainment. The conference will take place at the Agora Innovation Stage of the fair at 1.40 pm. 

Fisidabo, an example of the STEAM learning model

Fisidabo was created in 2012 as the result of a collaboration between BSM and the Degree in Engineering Physics at the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona (ETSETB) of the UPC. The initiative combines the learning of scientific and technical knowledge with entertainment, taking advantage of the recreational setting of an emblematic space such as Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo.

Currently, Fisidabo forms part of the STEAM educational programme of BSM and UPC to encourage scientific vocations in an enjoyable way and with academic rigour among primary, ESO and baccalaureate students, and especially among girls. Fisidabo also offers training sessions aimed at teachers, with around 50 teachers from all over Catalonia taking part each year, and since this academic year, these sessions have had the quality seal of the Government of Catalonia and the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of UPC.

The Fisidabo project has received the 2024 National Research Award in the Scientific Communication category, awarded by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) and the Government of Catalonia. Just a few days ago, it was also recognised with the 2025 Gutenberg Award during the 15th Conference on Scientific Communication and Dissemination – Campus Gutenberg at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum.

The park joins in the celebration of Barcelona’s Festa Major with an open day to enjoy the city from its highest point  

Parc d’atraccions Tibidabo is joining the La Mercè Festival by inviting the people of Barcelona to enjoy the city from its highest point. On 24 September, and for the first time, the park will open the Panoramic Area to the public, offering some of Tibidabo’s most emblematic rides, such as the Giradabo, the Talaia, the Avió, the Carrusel and the Museu d’Autòmats. 

On that day, people who register in advance for the Open Day will be able to access the park free of charge with the Cuca de Llum, in line with the park’s aim of promoting more efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility in the natural surroundings around it. 

Located 500 metres above sea level, Tibidabo’s Panoramic Area is the highest part of the park and offers the best views of the city. In addition to historic rides and an exceptional viewing point, it is also a space with a varied range of restaurants.

On 12 and 13 September, Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo will be filled with experiments and shows to bring science closer to everyone, young and old 

As another school year begins, Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – BarcelonaTech (UPC) are holding another edition of Physics Week, with two days of workshops and fun to bring science closer to everyone – young and old – in the magical setting of Tibidabo. 

On 12 and 13 September, visitors to Tibidabo will receive a passport to fill in as they take part in the various educational activities found throughout the park. There will be workshops and shows for all ages all day long.  

The activities on offer include Astronomia, a show to whet everyone’s appetite for the solar eclipse that will be visible from Barcelona next year, and the Autòmats workshop, inspired by the Tibidabo Automaton Museum, where participants will make their own version of some of the most iconic automata in the park, such as Monyos.  

On top of that, as in previous editions of Physics Week, visitors can scan QR codes at the entrances to several rides to access videos where Bi, one of Tibidabo’s mascots, will explain how each ride works and invite viewers to conduct experiments. 

Also participating in Physics Week will be a host of retro-futuristic characters from the Associació Retrofuturista Nautilus and the jazz band Moby Dixie, who will entertain arriving visitors. 

Tibidabo’s initiatives combining fun and science outreach are part of its commitment to education and innovation. This is a great opportunity to get little ones into science through play and fun. 

Available at weekends, the activity offers the chance to enjoy the sunset from the Torre Collserola and visit the Panoramic Area and Merlí rides   

Nearly 1,700 people have enjoyed the “Sunset at Tibidabo” activity since it was launched on 13 August

The Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo will be offering the “Sunset at Tibidabo” experience every weekend in September. Given its popularity with the public, with nearly 1,700 visitors in a little over two weeks; and to coincide with Barcelona hosting the annual World Federation of Great Towers conference, “Sunset at Tibidabo” is adding more dates to continue offering magical sunsets from its summit.

Available on Saturdays and Sundays in September from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, the activity offers the chance to reach Tibidabo on the Cuca de Llum funicular, see the sunset from the Torre Collserola and enjoy the iconic Panoramic Area and Merlí rides (the separate tickets for the rides can be purchased in the park) as well as the end-of-day shows in Plaça dels Somnis.

The evening ticket also includes a 15% discount at the eateries located in the Panoramic Area.

The “Sunset at Tibidabo” ticket costs 13.50 euros and is only available on the Tibidabo website.
