Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) has received the EFQM 400 Seal in recognition of its commitment to a management model based on excellence, innovation and sustainability, as well as the value it creates for its stakeholders. The EFQM Model offers a comprehensive tool for organisations to optimise their management through a rigorous, structured and objective management of their operations.

The distinction, now held by 3,000 enterprises throughout the Spanish State, is awarded by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), which is represented in the Spanish State by the Club Excelencia en Gestión [Excellence in Management Club]. The EFQM has declared B:SM to be a company continuously working for transformation and improved performance and ready to tackle future challenges, maximising its contribution of value to society. 

This first year of assessment has seen B:SM achieve a total score of 471 points. This puts it in a high position, among the highest-scoring 30% of companies according to the parameters set by the Model.

In B:SM’s specific case, the assessors particularly recognised its clear customer focus and the success of the public-private partnerships it promotes, resulting in better service provision and in an extensive transfer of knowledge to the market. They also highlighted its commitment to innovation made in every sphere of activity, a positioning that enables B:SM to lead the way in sectors such as electro-mobility, through the Barcelona Endolla network, and the development of mobility service applications, such as smou. Another development that the EFQM has described as very positive is the existence of a comprehensive management system which unifies work methods in all the B:SM’s business units.

“Receiving the EFQM Seal is a further example of the company’s commitment to quality and excellence, and how we continue to launch mechanisms that have an impact on the transformation and continuous improvement of our processes and activities”, explained B:SM's CEO, Marta Labata. “The score obtained in this first assessment is a very good starting point, and can only steer us towards the leadership we wish to exercise among our own business ecosystem. Our aim is to become benchmarks when it comes to the application of the EFQM Model within the public sector, acting as a lever for its extension. And to do that through the values that define us as a company committed to the quality of life of people by generating positive experiences for building a healthy Barcelona at the helm”.

Meanwhile, according to Miquel Romero, the director of Marketing and Commerce at Club Excelencia en Gestión: “B:SM is a highly complex organisation with a strong dedication to service, a culture based on a clear customer focus, taking decisive leadership in innovation in the services sector, working day-to-day with efficiency and effectiveness to ensure its future sustainability. The seal’s award ceremony was held this morning at the Olympic Ring as part of an in-house event held by the company.

Tibidabo Amusement Park was acquired by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) on 19 March 2002, thereby coming under public ownership

Over these twenty years, Tibidabo has become firmly established as a reference point for family leisure, seeking a balance between the value of its heritage and the introduction of new elements

The park will be commemorating twenty years of public management by Barcelona City Council in November, making the most of its 121st anniversary at the same time

Two decades of the Tibidabo Amusement Park being under public management. Today, 19 March, marks twenty years since Barcelona City Council became the owner of the park, tasking its management to Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) and keeping the legal form of a limited company (PATSA).

Joan Clos, the Mayor at the time, signed the agreement and took possession of the keys to Tibidabo with the goal of opening it back up to the Barcelona public, with the words: “Barcelona is the owner of a site which is very special for its citizens”.

During its 120-year history, Tibidabo has become an iconic landmark in the city, a point of reference for family recreation and leisure. Over the course of twenty years of public management, the park has steadily modernised its facilities and made new additions. It has also added shows and activities for families and children of all ages, the goal being to improve what it offers and the level of satisfaction among the 12 million plus visitors who have been there, always in line with its four strategic areas: experiences, solidarity, education and sustainability.

Regarding experiences, the TibiClub pass was launched for visitors in 2004, helping Tibidabo reach out to all families in Barcelona. Over these twenty years, the TibiClub has had over 300,000 member families, who have been able to enjoy the park with special pricing to suit their needs, and the park has received over ten million visitors.  

In addition, the park regained its panoramic area in 2007, offering an open-access space for people to stroll in, while in 2015 the park mascots were introduced to represent Tibidabo’s essence and values among children and families.

In the sphere of rides and attractions, notable aspects include the innovation involved in renewing the Virtual Express, the first ride in Catalonia to use VR glasses, and the renovation of the Castell dels Contes to offer an innovative and different experience linked to classic children’s stories. Over these twenty years, the Hotel Krüeger has also become an unmissable attraction for visitors, thanks to its character and its trademark terror scenes.

The park’s iconic rides and attractions have also been renewed, and PATSA is working to keep them in good condition, considering them cultural and emotional heritage. The iconic Avió ride dates back to 1928 and was completely renovated according to the original plane which made the first journey between Madrid and Barcelona in 1927.

Later, in 2015, the tunnels of the Embruixabruixes ride were renovated to improve the infrastructure, while in 2021 the Talaia celebrated its one hundredth birthday thanks to its fine maintenance and good condition.

Another strategic area for Tibidabo is solidarity. The park is committed to society and works on its social side year after year. Over the last twenty years the park has hosted more than 300 solidarity events, with over 150,000 participants. These events have been organised alongside various entities, such as UNICEF (this year marking the tenth year of this alliance), the NGO Pallapupas, the AFANOC, the Fundación Migranodearena, APRENEM and many more, helping to give visibility to their social projects.

In the sphere of education, the park aims to be a source for teaching which backs learning through fun and the creation of various STEAM projects. In this last working area, educational activities have been launched in areas such as the environment, technology and science, attracting over 50,000 students, as well as Fisidabo, a project in collaboration with the UPC and which has drawn in over 2,000 students, turning the park into a physics laboratory. Tibidabo has also added a Lego Education space to foster learning through family play, plus the Sala de Robòtica, where children can get to grips with programming through creative and fun activities.

Sustainability is another strategic area for the park, which is located in the natural space of the Collserola Natural Park and is respectful towards its surroundings. In line with sustainability, June 2021 brought the inauguration of the new funicular railway, the Cuca de Llum. This ambitious project meant an important change in mobility for the park and responds to the goal of cutting CO2 emissions at the top of the mountain and boosting collective rather than private transport.

The Tibidabo Amusement Park often provides the scene for audio-visual productions and photo sessions for film, television or advertising. Notable figures at the park over the last twenty years include the film director Woody Allen, when shooting the film Vicky Christina Barcelona, where the characters, including Penélope Cruz, appear in Tibidabo in different scenes in the film.

The park will be commemorating twenty years of public management by Barcelona City Council in November, making the most of its 121st anniversary at the same time.

This will be the first time Barcelona is the starting point for the regatta, which will take place from 14 to 16 April and finish in Formentera

The Olympic Port facilities continue to be improved to make it a new reference point for nautical activity in the city

Barcelona will be the starting point of the Ophiusa Regatta, an event linking the Catalan coast with the island of Formentera, for the first time this year. The Olympic Port will host the start of what will be the 19th regatta, taking place from 14 to 16 April.

Last year’s regatta saw 23 boats take part in an event which previously set off from the Port of Sitges. Recent improvements, the fact that the mouth of the port is 4 metres deep and other safety measures mean that most boats will be able to gather inside the port.

Improvements which stimulate nautical activity

The Olympic Port is working to help revitalise nautical activity in the city, which is one of the core strategies of its transformation project. To achieve these goals, one of municipal company B:SM’s spheres of action is improving port facilities. In that regard, work to improve the anchoring system at the port finished at the end of February. That means more safety for boats and greater convenience for users. The mooring cable system has also been replaced by a double-cable system to facilitate manoeuvring and avoid cables getting stuck.

With a budget of €444,000, this work has enabled mooring points to be reorganised to adapt their dimensions and ensure that current boat widths are catered for. This has meant the reorganisation of fleets at the Marina, Mestral and Gregal wharfs and at the jetties, with boats organised by type and according to users’ needs. As a result, each boat moored at the port has more space.

An Olympic Port firmly linked to the city and the sea

Since March 2020, Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) has managed the Olympic Port on behalf of the City Council to oversee its transformation. During this new era, the Olympic Port aims to be a public space where nautical activity coexists with the generation of economic activity mainly linked to the sea and the blue economy, based on sustainability criteria and public management.

Collaborating with the organisers of the 19th Ophiusa Regatta fits in with the desire to strengthen the Olympic Port’s links with sport and nautical activity.

The two organisations are working together to promote scientific vocations among teenagers, by means of STEAM workshops (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)

For the first time, Barcelona Zoo has been added to the list of emblematic venues used as STEAM experimentation centres: the Fòrum Park, the Olympic Ring and Tibidabo

Over the last four years, 11,000 students have taken part in the project, which endeavours to break down gender stereotypes and highlight leading women, in order to foster scientific vocations among girls

Among other experiments, students can build a rocket driven by pressurised water, understand the importance of sustainable-mobility models, thanks to Bicing, or study the concepts of acceleration, velocity and force on Tibidabo’s roller coaster

The first activity, Visions STEAM – Fòrum, was held today. It is aimed at 4th year and sixth form secondary school students

Barcelona is becoming established as an educational-innovation hub at a European level. A new season of STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) begins today. It is being jointly organised by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia - BarcelonaTech (UPC), at various emblematic locations in the city. The aim is to help foster scientific vocations among compulsory secondary education and sixth form students, especially girls, providing knowledge in a flexible, creative way while maintaining academic rigour.

This year, nearly 6,000 students are taking part in the various activity sessions that have been scheduled. The registration figures show the participation of 2,800 more students than last year, when the total capacity was reduced because of the pandemic.

In the last four years, over 11,000 compulsory secondary education and sixth form students have taken part in STEAM activities, which until this year were held in three of the city’s emblematic locations: the Olympic Ring, the Fòrum Park and Tibidabo Amusement Park. This year, Barcelona Zoo will also be hosting workshops and activities. This means that, for the first time, 1st year secondary school students can also take part. With this expansion, the project now covers all compulsory secondary education and sixth form courses.

Jaume Collboni, Barcelona City Council’s First Deputy Mayor and president of B:SM, underlined ‘the city’s commitment to science and projects like STEAM, which places us in the vanguard of educational innovation. We aim to offer young people, and especially girls, the opportunities arising from scientific training, thereby ensuring that they take an active part in the technological revolution’. He also emphasised the role played in this initiative by the city’s emblematic venues, the Fòrum, the Olympic Ring, Tibidado and, for the first time, the Zoo. ‘We turn iconic Barcelona facilities into urban “laboratories” for experiencing science and instilling vocations, thereby contributing to the students’ education’, he affirmed.

Adriana Farran, the director of the Barcelona Est Engineering School (EEBE), noted that ‘for the EEBE, it is a pleasure to collaborate in the organisation of Visions – STEAM Fòrum, because, as a polytechnic centre, we have an invested interest in encouraging girls and boys to take up science and technology. We believe that one of the best ways to do this is through experience. And if this can be done outdoors, in a dynamic, fun way, so much the better’.

An educational innovation hub at the service of the city’s young talent

All the project STEAM activities are prepared in line with the educational curriculum of each school year. Using a cross-cutting approach, subjects which are difficult to explain inside the classroom due to their level of complexity are chosen, turning them into fun experiments to make them easier to understand. In addition to promoting scientific and technological culture, the activities offer multi-disciplinary perspectives on a given subject, creating a dialogue between scientific methods and creative processes. This also contributes to educational innovation in the classroom.

During the activities, the students taking part are accompanied by monitors, who are also UPC students. Many of these young people participated in the design of the experiments, together with professors Luis Carlos Pardo and Artur Paz, who are the UPC’s project coordinators. It is therefore a session made by and for students, something which facilitates the learning experience still further.

We foster scientific vocations in emblematic city venues

The project is structured around four different formats, held in four city venues specialising in the various educational stages.

Visions STEAM is the result of a collaboration between B:SM and the UPC’s Barcelona Est Engineering School (EEBE). Visions STEAM – Fòrum was the first session to be held, and it took place today. 4th year secondary school students carried out experiments involving biology, physics, mathematics, chemistry and technology. This year, B:SM has given grants to 60 students from the Barri Besós school, covering all of their expenses, so that they could take part in the activity. This is another social return and integration initiative, aimed at generating synergies with the Fòrum Park area and revitalising the neighbourhood.

Visions STEAM – Olympic Ring is being held soon (7 April). This session is aimed at 2nd and 3rd year secondary school students. The session’s various itineraries are structured along five lines: brains, material, energy, art and technology. Among other experiments, the participants can build a rocket powered by pressurised water, experience Newton’s Laws through dance, understand the importance of sustainable-mobility models, thanks to Bicing, and take part in a laser game based on an episode of The Big Bang Theory.

Some time later, on 9 November, it will be the turn of Visions STEAM – Zoo, which is being held for the first time. In this case, the activity is aimed at 1st and 2nd year secondary school students. This means that, for the first time, all secondary school years can now benefit from this series of activities.

Fisidabo 2k, the precursor of the STEAM project

Fisidabo 2k (20 May) focuses on physics and is organised in collaboration with the Physical Engineering Degree Course at the UPC’s Higher School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSEIB). It is aimed at 4th year compulsory secondary education and sixth form students, who will have the chance to transform some of the Park’s attractions, in order to carry out experiments, thereby getting a first-hand learning experience. 

The planned experiments include: confirming Newton’s Second Law using the movement of El Diavolo’s flying chairs; calculating the acceleration, velocity and power of the roller coaster, studying the dynamic force of El Piratta, and establishing why the mirrors in Miramiralls reflect images in different ways. The Fisidabo Labshow is being held on the Sunday of the same week as Fisidabo. Students and researchers will demonstrate science to families, by using various shows and workshops.

This is the fifth year of Fisidabo 2k’s great school activity, learning from the experience of Fisidabo Hipàtia, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Fisidabo Hipàtia is a session where the students themselves, in this case from the CELLEX Science and Mathematics International Baccalaureate, plan and carry out their own experiments, also using the Park’s attractions.

In previous editions, two of these projects had an international projection, being published in the renowned European magazine, the Journal of Physics. Some of the participants in Fisidabo Hipàtia are currently studying in prestigious universities, such as the MIT in Massachussets, the KTH in Stockholm and Swinburne University in Australia.

International recognition for B:SM’s and the UPC’s STEAM activities

The B:SM's and the UPC’s STEAM activities have been recognised internationally in various scientific, technological and educational areas. The Fisidabo 2K project and the STEAM-Olympic Ring project won accolades in the ‘Physics and Society’ category of the 2018 ‘Science in Action’ awards, a nationwide competition for students, teachers, researchers and communicators in the scientific community. The main aim of these awards is to present science in an attractive, motivating way for young people and the general public.

In 2015, the Fisidabo 2k project took part in the international ‘Science on Stage’ fair for educational initiatives in London. That experience was a key factor in establishing contact with similar educational initiatives in other parts of Europe.

The aim is to reach 3,300 charging points by 2024, 1,000 points activated and 2,300 pre-installed, which means a five-fold increase in the current network

This major strategic deployment will be flexible and scalable, in order to be able to respond quickly to future demand and, at the same time, adapt efficiently to the technology of a constantly evolving market

Endolla Barcelona is today the largest public network in Spain with 600 points spread throughout the city, both in B:SM car parks and on public roads

Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM), the city's main electric mobility operator, continues to promote the growth of the public network of Endolla Barcelona electric charging points, with a planned investment of 12M euros over the next three years. Endolla Barcelona is currently the largest network of charging points in Spain, with a total of 600 points distributed throughout the city, and with this investment it will reach 3,300 electric charging points by 2024. 1,000 of these points will be active and 2,300 will be pre-installed, ready to be activated quickly according to the evolution of demand and technology. This investment, which is expected to be fully or partially financed by European funds, represents an increase of 550% compared to the current network.
Barcelona, through B:SM, guarantees the transition towards the use of renewable energies in mobility and promotes energy self-sufficiency with maximum guarantees of quality, sustainability and accessibility for all city residents. This promotes innovation that "intelligently" anticipates and generates new electricity demand. Endolla Barcelona aims to act as a key lever to stimulate the electric vehicle market, and to show Barcelona's commitment to continue moving towards the future in favour of electro-mobility. In this way, it also contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions, noise reduction and respect for the environment through sustainable mobility. A global investment of 17M euros
So far, 5M euros has already been invested in the development and growth of the Endolla Barcelona network, essential for the implementation of electric mobility in the city. The investment planned for the next three years, of a further 12M euros, will bring the total investment to 17M euros.
During the last quarter of 2021, 44 new points will be installed, the vast majority of which will be located in car parks in the B:SM network and the rest on public roads. The installation of these points will follow a strategy of efficient use of public space, focusing on planned recharging in car parks.
In 2022 the network will be prepared for the electrification of car parks in order to install recharging points and thus cover future demand. This preliminary work will enable a quicker and more agile response to users when it is necessary to install new charging points according to the different needs of electric vehicles (hybrids, 100% electric, motorbikes, cars or vans).
It is a flexible, efficient and scalable strategic approach to meet increasing demand. Moreover, it will be aligned with the parallel development of this industry and associated technology, which is constantly innovating. A quality service covering all of Barcelona's neighbourhoods
Endolla Barcelona, unlike other electric charging infrastructures in other cities, provides homogeneous city-wide coverage in all the city's neighbourhoods. Barcelona is a compact and dense city where private electric recharging is difficult to install and where the private offering has not developed significantly.
Endolla Barcelona ensures standards of service quality, territorial coverage, interoperability of the different operators and an intelligent use of energy that are unprecedented in Spain, making the Catalan capital the leading city in Spain in terms of electro-mobility.
Currently, the Endolla Barcelona network offers an average of 5,500 monthly recharges, which represents a network occupancy rate of approximately 10%. In other words, the service is far from its saturation point. However, from January to September 2021, usage increased by 37% and demand is expected to increase in the coming years. Specifically, a total of 6,404 recharges were registered in September.
Endolla Barcelona has 6 points per km2 distributed throughout all neighbourhoods, with one charging point for every 11 electric vehicles, and currently offers 100% service availability in the case of fast charging points (public roads) and 97% in the case of slow charging points (car parks).
eCharge 4 Drivers, an innovative research project co-funded by the European Union
Barcelona, through the Endolla Barcelona network, is participating in the European eCharge 4 Drivers project, co-funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. Europe needs great united and dynamic cities, such as Barcelona, to carry out research and innovation in this field, given that electric energy infrastructures are in constant development.
The project, promoted by the European Commission and the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, ICCS, involves 10 cities, including Barcelona, Grenoble, Berlin, Luxembourg, Zellik, Brussels and Bari. Its main objectives are to improve the user experience by reducing recharging time, to deploy the infrastructure in a sustainable way and to develop smart recharging points that are easy to use.

For the first time Automobile Barcelona showcases a sustainable mobility app

The app demonstrates a clear commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility in the city of Barcelona, through a model based on public-private collaboration

More than 450,000 users put their faith in Smou for planning their daily journeys within Barcelona and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area

Highlights include Endolla Barcelona, the electric vehicle charging network that is one of the biggest in Europe, and is spearheading Barcelona’s new mobility model

Smou, the Barcelona personal mobility app that combines several different services in just one space will be at Automobile Barcelona 2021, the motor show organised by the Fira de Barcelona. At this year’s edition, the spotlight will be on the commitment to electromobility and new models of personal and shared mobility.
Smou will be there with a 250 m2 stand located at the entrance to Hall 8 at the Montjuïc venue, where the key automobile brands based in Catalonia will also have stands, together with other organisations. This will be the first time that a mobility app is featured at the show, and Smou will bring with it the values of innovation and shared, sustainable mobility.
 
Smou’s commitment to Automobile Barcelona goes further since, as one of the event’s official sponsors, it will also be present at the points of access to the show itself, and on the central screen in the Plaça de l’Univers. Additionally, it will be facilitating visitor mobility by offering 30 minutes free parking in the Rius i Taulet-Fonts Monjuïc-Fira car park belonging to the B:SM network.  

A great opportunity to get to know the B:SM network

The Smou stand will be divided into three large spaces dedicated to raising awareness of the different mobility services and solutions proposed by the app. On the one hand there will be a space dedicated exclusively to the Endolla Barcelona service, where visitors will find an electric charging point, and will be able to find out about the challenges facing what is the largest network of charging stations in Spain, and its future expansion.

And on the other, there will be a space dedicated to learning more about the move towards a new concept, B:SM parking mobility hubs that will offer integrated mobility solutions that go beyond parking itself.

One app, a multitude of services

Smou is an app that favours multimodality in mobility in a way that is simple, intuitive, sustainable and safe, and allows the planning and personalisation of journeys in a straightforward and organised way, without the need to download a series of different apps. With regard to parking, with Smou you can see available spaces in facilities belonging to BSM, Saba and Mamsa, and automatic number plate recognition allows immediate access to these car parks. The app also includes management of on-street parking in Barcelona and in 10 other municipalities within the Barcelona Metropolitan Area: Badalona, Castelldefels, Esplugues de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Montgat, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern and most recently Sant Boi de Llobregat.

Users can check the availability of 90,000 regulated on-street parking spaces with comfort and ease, allowing them to pay only for time actually used, and removing the need to find a parking meter. Through Smou, users also have access to the 594 public charging stations within the Endolla Barcelona network for charging their electric vehicles directly via their smartphones. All charging points, whether on the street or at B:SM car parks, include a QR code, by means of which users can activate charging through their own mobile phones. 

Furthermore, the app enables users to book a 20-minute slot at the points located on the street, as well as check the locations and real-time availability of the network’s more than 500 charging stations. Smou is also the official app for Bicing. Users can pick up bicycles safely and easily via a QR code on their smartphones, reserve a 5-minute slot on a static bike, create routes or locate the nearest stations, to mention but a few of the possibilities. Shared mobility is an integral part of the Smou app, and it extends to the rest of the city's vehicle-share operators.

Users can find information, and check on the location of the almost 10,000 licensed bicisharing and motosharing vehicles in Barcelona. Carsharing vehicles are also available, with the recent incorporation of the operator Virtuo.

Smou, growing all the time

Smou is committed to integrating different mobility services in a single app, offering city residents a better experience thanks to ease of use, security and convenience. The app is constantly being improved, and just two years after its launch, the numbers both of services offered and of users is still growing.

The establishment of this consultative body complements the amendment to the Barcelona Byelaw on the Protection, Ownership and Sale of Animals, which was approved in 2019, together with the Strategic Plan for the New Barcelona Zoo Model

The Committee is made up of 9 men and 6 women, all independent, with extensive experience and scientific knowledge in biodiversity research, conservation and management, animal welfare and its management in zoos, with a multidisciplinary vocation

Barcelona City Council establishes its Science and Ethics Committee (CCE) for the Zoo, made up of fifteen independent experts in biodiversity conservation and management and in animal welfare. This is a collegiate advisory body, answerable to the Third Deputy Mayor’s office, the area responsible for animal protection. This new advisory body has been created in accordance with the July 2019 amendment to the Byelaw on the Protection, Ownership and Sale of Animals.

More specifically, the amendment to the Byelaw’ 4th Additional Provision, the result of a citizen initiative, was approved together with the Strategic Plan for a New Model for Barcelona Zoo with a 2031 horizon, and which aspires to gradually turn Barcelona Zoo into a world benchmark for research, animal conservation and education in nature-friendly values. The New Model for Barcelona Zoo prioritises the conservation of the world’s most endangered species, especially native and Mediterranean fauna.

The Science and Ethics Committee held its first meeting yesterday afternoon, presided over by the Third Deputy Mayor, Laia Bonet, during which the Committee’s members were introduced. It also provided the opportunity for sharing the body’s draft operative rules, which will involve improved transparency and greater participation in the implementation of the New Model for Barcelona Zoo.

The Committee’s functions, as established under the Byelaw that created it, will be:

1)    To issue reports on the situation of animals at Barcelona Zoo for their referrals
2)    To ensure the correct application of the criteria for rearing or breeding animals in captivity
3)    To prepare reports for the approval of habitat and species projects and to ensure their correct application

The Committee may be required to issue other reports owing to their expertise in animal research, conservation or welfare.

The Committee is made up of 9 men and 6 women, all independent, with extensive experience and scientific knowledge in biodiversity research and conservation and animal welfare with a multidisciplinary vocation.

Barcelona City Council - also spurred on by the Barcelona Zoo Foundation's Board of Trustees - has worked hard to ensure maximum parity among its members, taking into account the limits that come with having institutional members who are associated with the position they hold and are, in this case, men. It also regrets that it had to delay the launch of its Science and Ethics Committee by several months, because of the pandemic.

From now on, smou users will be able to enjoy all the features of the bicing app at smou: register for the service, reserve and take the bikes, among many other functionalities!

Improvements that Bicing users will find at smou:

Among the new improvements that the Bicing user will find at smou are the possibility of registering using the smou app, viewing the availability and type of bicycles at the station in a more agile way, taking the bicycle and consulting the status of the journey, also consulting the history of trips made, checking the anchorage of the bicycle automatically, more detailed information on the status of the subscription or knowing when to renew, among others.

With the app smou, bicing users can take bikes as before, comfortably and safely, as well as make a provisional 5-minute reservation before arriving at the station (functionality available only for mechanical bikes). It is also possible to create predetermined routes and geolocate the nearest stations.

Users of the Bicing service can start the process of migration to smou from today in an easy and comfortable way. All they need to do is follow the instructions given, set a new password to access smou and the linkage will be made automatically. Once they have accessed smou, they will keep all the information in their user area, such as the history of uses, the modality of their subscription and they will also have technical support within the same app to be able to contact the service.

The Multi Sports Centre is operating as a field hospital

B:SM Car Parks continue adapting to facilitate mobility for healthcare staff and are already providing a service to over 1100 vehicles of professionals working at the city’s medical centres

In view of the health emergency resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak, the B:SM Network of Car Parks continues to offer various alternatives to facilitate parking for healthcare professionals and make its contribution to essential mobility. On the one hand, work on adapting the BSM P.R. Biomèdica car park to provide support for the Claror Marítim sports complex has been completed, since the sports centre has been fitted out as a field hospital during the COVID-19 emergency. Work was carried out on floor -3 (floor -2 of the car park) and involved opening a 180 cm door to link the car park interior with the sports complex through the traffic lane surrounding the pitch from behind. In addition, two plasterboard screens have been put up to separate the car park from the sports complex and facilitate the healthcare teams’ totally independent mobility and ensure health safety for all other users and workers. The car park will be reserved for the exclusive use of its permit holders for as long as necessary. There will only be pedestrian access through Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta, with the pedestrian access points along C/ Trelawny and C/ Dr Aiguader (Ronda Litoral) remaining closed.

On the other hand, the list of car parks providing free access for healthcare staff continues to grow according to the needs requested by the various centres. That means there will be daily adaptations, in coordination with managers at the medical centres themselves, to the needs of workers travelling by private vehicle, to contribute to their personal mobility and provide them with free access.
There are currently 15 car parks in the B:SM network which are providing parking places for healthcare professionals, entailing more than 1100 vehicles with an average daily use of 160 (Mondays to Fridays) and 95 uses (weekends). In all, more than 1,800 uses have been recorded since 17 March in the various car parks in the B:SM network.

Access to selected car parks is enabled through licence-plate recognition, previously validated by the management offices, to enable the entry and exit of vehicles at car parks and promote prevention by reducing to a minimum the need for contact, given that the barrier automatically opens for users without their having to stop or take out a ticket.
