Work on the third and final stage of conditioning the stadium gets under way on 24 July and should be completed in August

FC Barcelona is close to starting the final stage of work to condition the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, the team’s new home until November 2024 while part of the work to remodel the Spotify Camp Nou is carried out. The club continues to work on the Espai Barça project. As part of the lease agreement with Ajuntament de Barcelona through the municipal company Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM), which manages the facility, FC Barcelona started conditioning work in December 2022. 

Work was needed to ensure that several parts of the stadium meet the club’s needs as well as La Lliga and international competition requirements. It is now practically finished, in time for the arrival of the team in August. The hospitality suites, directors’ box, press stands, changing rooms and pitch are just some of the spaces that have undergone major transformations. The drainage, sprinklers and water treatment systems have also been renovated, with a new water tank added, along with all competition and TV broadcasting systems.

Other work carried out at the stadium includes the conditioning of floodlights, the pre-installation of turnstiles at entrances and also telecommunications networks. In line with the work schedule, the second stage was carried out during two windows between events at Montjuïc, from 4 to 12 May and from 11 June to 3 July. This second window was also used to transfer power generators and assemble one of the TV commentary boxes, among other things.

Third and final stage of work at Montjuïc

Work to condition the stadium to meet the club’s needs concludes with a third stage which gets under way on 24 July and concludes at the start of the 2023-24 season. The work planned includes replacing stand seats in the current emergency exit routes for concerts, installing new seats in VIP areas and football-related systems (VAR, tracking cameras, offside cameras) and also setting up the team dugouts and the goals. Ticket booths, merchandising facilities and the Barcelona Fan Support Office will also be installed and the definitive turf laid on the pitch.

An iconic facility for cultural and sports activity

Together with the rest of the facilities in the Anella Olímpica, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys is a multi-purpose space devoted to cultural, sports and social activity in Barcelona. Ever since it was built, the stadium has hosted major international events in the world of sport and music, positioning Barcelona as a global city. On this occasion, that versatility will enable it to respond to the needs of FC Barcelona.

Besides Barça’s games, the Estadi Olímpic is currently experiencing a record year, hosting nine concerts which are part of international tours by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Harry Styles and The Weeknd. In all, the Anella Olímpica expects to host nearly 150 events, attracting over 1.4 million visitors, without counting Barça’s Barcelona. 

The City Council, BSM and FC Barcelona have worked to make the club's activities compatible with all the other cultural, sports and social uses of the Anella Olímpica and all other facilities on Montjuïc. 

The new attraction, which opens on 5 July for the general public and this weekend for TibiClub members, allows you to plunge into an immersive journey through new digital worlds.

Tibidabo is kicking off the summer by extending visiting hours and introducing new activities, including a new Geronimo Stilton show, featuring different artists from the 'Eufòria' TV programme. 

The amusement park will also host the 10th edition of the "Vozes" association solidarity concert

Tibidabo opens a new virtual portal into the beyond. The amusement park starts the summer with the launch of 'Beyond', a new immersive virtual reality experience that will bring the mystery and adventure of different digital worlds to the historical Sky Building.

During the 10-minute long experience, visitors must wear virtual reality goggles and use two remote controls. While walking through the interior of the Sky Building, they will watch an immersive clip that will allow them to experience an enthralling story first-hand. In collaboration with the German company VR Coaster, Tibidabo has developed a variety of animations and content that will be played randomly throughout the season to guarantee new experiences. 

'Beyond' will be open to the general public on Thursday 5 July, although TibiClub members will have exclusive access to it this weekend. The attraction is included in the general amusement park admission. However, in order to enter you will need to book your pass in person outside the attraction and pay a €3 fee, which will be returned to you or can be exchanged for a restaurant voucher.

The attraction represents a firm commitment by the park to combine its contribution to preserving the city's historical heritage –including attractions such as the aeroplane, the watchtower and the automotons– with a vision for the future that incorporates cutting-edge technology to create unforgettable moments of fun and discovery.

‘Beyond’ is the third attraction in the park to use immersive technologies. The Virtual Express was inaugurated in 2017, while this April VR came to the Roller Coaster, a clear demonstration of Tibidabo's commitment to creating innovative experiences based on applying new audiovisual technologies. 

Music, light and magic: the summer hits are back

During the coming months, Tibidabo will be bringing back two of its most successful summer shows. In July, younger children can once again sing and dance along with our most famous mouse, Gerónimo Stilton. As a new feature, this year he will be accompanied by some of the singers who took part in the 'Eufòria’ TV competition, namely, Pedro Da Costa on 1,2, 8 and 9 July; Chung Man, on 15 and 16 July; and Estela, on 22, 23, 29 and 30 July. The show can be seen on theses July weekends from 8.30 pm onwards. 

In August, visitors will be able to enjoy the night-time Laser Show, which will fill the Plaça dels Somnis with light and colour from 9.30 pm onwards. This month the mascots will also be featured in a new show. It will take place every evening, at 7.00 pm. in Plaça del Jardí. 

Throughout the summer there will also be puppet shows at the Marionetarium every hour from 1 pm onwards, with popular characters such as Karam, Bròquil, Samfaina and Pruna. The films 'Meg and the Lost Scepter' in 4D and 'Wanted Alive' in 3D will continue to be shown at the Dididado cinema, with screenings every 20 minutes.

The Park maintains its solidarity commitment by showcasing non-profit organisations and associations that work with different groups. For example, every summer a solidarity concert is held by "Vozes", a musical association that works for social cohesion and offers free, quality musical training to vulnerable young people. This year will see the tenth such concert, which will take place on Thursday, 28 July.

Longer opening hours to guarantee maximum fun

With the arrival of summer, Tibidabo is extending its opening hours. On July weekends, the park will close one hour later, at 10 pm. In August, these extended opening hours will apply from Sunday to Sunday, guaranteeing 11 hours of fun, rides and shows a day. 

The newly launched Ludo Zoo is a library service for visitors to delve into the world of biodiversity, while the Nature Passport also offers new activities related with felines

The Zoo has also added more spots to its summer camps. A thousand children are signed up to take part in these camps, and there is also a programme of talks, workshops and play-based activities

“Experience the Zoo” is ta new media campaign that invites people to rediscover the Zoo and its aim of becoming a role-model in the conservation of biodiversity

This is a summer for experiencing and rediscovering Barcelona Zoo. Besides the general visit, people going to the Zoo this summer can enjoy a wide array of activities which strengthen education and awareness in terms of respect for nature.

Barcelona Zoo is also launching the new Ludo Zoo this summer. This service offers visitors access to publications and documents to discover the planet’s biodiversity through books, games and other reference materials. The facility is housed in the Welcome Classroom and opens on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, with staff on hand to educate and inform.

With the start of the school holidays, the Zoo will also extend its programme to offer activities every day of the week. Various workshops and participatory talks related to animal welfare, the conservation of endangered species and zoology will be offered over the course of the summer. The popular meetings with keepers are alsoback, as are the visits to the lab in the Invertebrates Space and the Sahel Savannah.

The Zoo adds more spots for its summer activity camps

Following success of its summer camps in recent years, the Zoo is offering more spots this season, with a thousand children signed up to take part. This annual educational programme aims to help children better understand the world of fauna and to foster respect for the conservation of biodiversity and the natural environment.

This year’s summer camps at the Zoo offer as many as eleven different topics. Notable examples include “Let’s save the animals”, “Let’s build a zoo”, “National Zoologic”, “Let’s investigate our surroundings” and “Film camp”.

The Nature Passport builds on its success and offers a new activity on felines
Launched last year, the Nature Passport is aimed at Zoo Club members and now has a firm place in the activity agenda at the Zoo. This educational initiative seeks to foster knowledge about the planet’s biodiversity among children visiting the Zoo, with dynamic play-based activities.

A new option is being added this summer to introduce members to the world of felines: to discover what they are like, why some are in danger of extinction and why there are some at the Zoo. The activity also explains the European wildcat project which the Zoo is collaborating with. This native species of wildcat is the only representative of the feline family in our country and is in a vulnerable situation owing to the loss and fragmentation of its natural habitat.

“Experience the Zoo”, the new media campaign by Barcelona Zoo
Coinciding with the end of the school year, the Zoo has launched “Experience the Zoo”, a media campaign inviting people to reconnect with the facility and discover the new recreational activities and projects being implemented to make the Zoo a role-model in the conservation of biodiversity.

The campaign is in line with the new model for the Zoo, which seeks to become a conservation centre for biodiversity with an educational side to it which helps raise public awareness over the need to protect nature and the environment, at the same time reconnecting people with nature and having a positive influence on their habits.

Temporary recommendations on access

The entrance to Barcelona Zoo located in C/ Wellington will be affected in the summer months by the building work on the future science complex of the Ciutadella del Coneixement. While the work lasts, the Zoo will be setting up alternative signage indicating the routes visitors should follow using the streets of C/ Ramon Fargas and Av. Icària to reach the ticket booths. The nearest car parks are the BSM Parc de Recerca Biomèdica and the BSM Marina Port.

Services on the T4 tram line and the L4 metro line will also be disrupted from 26 June to 25 August (metro) and 31 August (tram), owing to work to improve the transport infrastructure. A shuttle bus service will also be operating between Verdaguer, Jaume I and Barceloneta during this period.

Visitors can also use the entrance to the Zoo located in the Parc de la Ciutadella, which is easily accessed from the metro and train station of Arc de Triomf and the train station of Estació de França.

Entitled “Music, women and city”, the programme offers a cycle or concerts inspired by the final years of Francoist period and a film cycle devoted to the role of women in the 1960s 

The programme is being run in collaboration with the Museu d’Història de Barcelona (MUHBA), with guided history routes also planned

Park Güell will be playing host over the coming months to a full programme of culture, organised in collaboration with the MUHBA. The goal is to offer new opportunities for people to enjoy this iconic space, with activities sharing the goal of discovering the history of the city through music, film and guided routes.

Entitled “Music, women and city”, the programme offers several cultural initiatives, with a historical and heritage vision. One of these is the concert cycle Camins musicals de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 - 1986, organised in collaboration with ESMUC and offering a journey through the different experiences of the final days of the Franco era and early days of democracy.  Another is the Barcelona en moviment film cycle, which is devoted this year to women in the 1960s Barcelona and will be screening three films about relationships between couples and the subsidiary role that women had at the time, with Barcelona as the backdrop. This cycle is being run in collaboration with Filmoteca de Catalunya. 

“Camins musicals de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 - 1986” concert cycle

Another summer, and Plaça de la Natura in Park Güell will be turning into a big stage for music once again, on the last Friday in June and every Friday in July. The park will be playing host to a concert cycle entitled “Camins musical de llibertat. Barcelona, 1974 / 1986”, organised with the help of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). This year’s cycle offers four concerts based on the diversity of Barcelona's society in the final years of the Franco era and the early years of democracy. 

• “Sons de llibertat” [Sounds of freedom], with Pol Aumedes (30 June, at 8.30 pm)
• “Sons de flamenco en vermell” [Sounds of flamenco in red], with La prenda roja (7 July, at 8.30 pm) 
• “Nits llatines” [Latin nights], with Jordi Barceló Grup (14 July, at 8.30 pm)
• “From now on”, with Isaac Romagosa Group (21 July, at 8.30 pm)

“Barcelona en moviment” film cycle

The “Barcelona en moviment” film cycle will be devoted this summer to women in the 1960s Barcelona and screening three films about relationships between couples and the subsidiary role that women had at that time. A selection of films screened every Wednesday in July, in collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya.

• Noche de vino tinto (1966), by José María Nunes (12 July, at 9 pm)
• El certificado (1970), by Vicente Lluch (19 July, at 9 pm)

The concerts and film sessions are free, when booked in advance from the MUHBA website. 

Historical itineraries and routes at the park

In addition, several itineraries and guided historical routes will also being held at Park Güell and its surrounding neighbourhoods, from the end of June through to September, exploring various aspects linked to the history of the park, the career of the architect Antoni Gaudí, the site’s link with the city and the evolution of nearby neighbourhoods early in the 20th century. 

These guided tours will cost 2 euros and last somewhere between 1 and 3 hours. Dates, times and ticket purchasing are all available on the MUHBA website.

The Zona Bus 4.0 project, initiated by BSM, aims to create an intelligent monitoring system to optimise the presence of coaches in public spaces 

The initiative has been allocated a budget of €1 million from the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destination Barcelona, which is financed by the Next Generation European funds

Zona Bus 4.0 and SPRO are two of the sustainable mobility solutions being exhibited by BSM as part of the UITP‘s Global Public Transport Summit being held in Barcelona until 7 June

Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) is busy developing Zona Bus 4.0. The project's main goal is to create a smart system for monitoring the flow of tourist-coach traffic to encourage more efficient use of public spaces. 

The initiative stems from the increasing use of the current Zona Bus, which is an exclusive system for tourist and private coaches, allowing these vehicles to circulate throughout the city. At present, private transport professionals have to register or reserve their stops and parking spaces through the SPRO mobile application. This generates a large volume of data which, when digitally processed, can be used to create an information system that helps to organise and even predict the flow and concentration of tourist coaches. 

For example, it will be possible to determine the number of coaches visiting a certain tourist area during a specific timeslot. The project will also allow drivers to plan in advance, using relevant information to plan the route for the attractions they wish to visit. 

The changes will also be visible in the coach parking and stopping areas, which will be digitalised and networked. Among other things, intelligent sensors and number-plate readers will be incorporated. Work is also being carried out to install digital screens that provide information of interest about the service for coach drivers and visitors alike.  Among other resources, professionals will be able to consult available parking spaces and locations of other nearby parking areas, while tourists will be able to see the available public transport connections and the quickest route to the points of greatest interest. 

For Laia Bonet, the acting Deputy Mayor and president of BSM, “this project is a clear example of the leadership that Barcelona wishes to achieve in the application of new technologies that improve mobility in the city. These measures have a positive effect, optimising public spaces, minimising unnecessary journeys and therefore favouring more organised mobility and reducing pollutant emissions”. 

The development of Zona Bus 4.0, which has an allocated budget of €1 million and should become operational in 2025, is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destination Barcelona, which the City Council presented as a candidate for Europe‘s Next Generation funds. The plan is made up of a series of 19 projects intended to improve and diversify tourist offers and make progress in the energy transition and in the digitalisation of the sector. 

Zona Bus, SPRO and Barcelona Nord, at the service of tourist mobility

The Zona Bus consists of a set of spaces reserved for tourist coaches to stop or park. They are always located close to spaces of high interest to the visiting public. Currently, there are 37 Zona Bus areas with a total of 168 spaces, 46 for short stops and 122 for parking. 

The use of these exclusive parking and stopping areas for coaches allows more orderly access to these tourist attractions while improving traffic flow and the circulation of pedestrians in general.

Driving professionals record their stops and parking quickly and simply using the SPRO mobile application, created by BSM, and now considered a leading tool in the sector. After being operational for only one year, SPRO-BUS now has 4,052 active users and has managed to digitise 85% of its operations, relegating the use of parking meters to the remaining 15%. There were 49,382 operations in 2022. The first four months of 2023 have seen the number of registrations reach 33,627, six times the figure for the same period in 2022. 

In addition to being launched in the Zona Bus, SPRO has been the benchmark app for professional drivers using the loading and unloading areas (DUM) since 2020. SPRO-DUM currently has 147,109 registered professionals and operates in 10 metropolitan municipalities: Barcelona, Badalona, Castelldefels, El Prat de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern and Santa Coloma de Gramenet. In total, 2022 will register around 9.7 million operations. 

The Estació d'Autobusos Barcelona Nord also plays an important role in the future management of tourist mobility in the city. The space is being transformed into a new tourist mobility hub. The idea is for Barcelona Nord to become the main hub for the arrival and departure of tourist coaches, thereby promoting cultural and local tourism and helping to make Barcelona a better organised and peaceful city through the decentralisation of tourist activity. The project is also integrated into the Barcelona Destination Tourist Sustainability Plan and boasts a budget of €4.8 million, provided by the Next Generation Fund. 

BSM is featured at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit

The vision for Zona Bus is one of the projects that BSM is showcasing at the Global Public Transport Summit—the most important international meeting of the public transport and sustainable mobility sector, organised for the first time in Barcelona by the International Union of Public Transport (UITP). BSM will be taking part as an exhibitor with its own stand until 7 June, explaining how it is helping to promote new mobility in Barcelona through services such as Bicing, Endolla, the Aparcaments B:SM and technological applications such as SMOU and SPRO. 

During the inauguration of the event, the BSM stand was visited by Raquel Sánchez, the Spanish Minister for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda; Juli Fernàndez, the Catalan Minister for Territorial Affairs; Khalid Alhogail, the president of the UITP; and Mohamed Mezghani, the Secretary General of the organisation. They were received by Laia Bonet, the president of BSM, and various BSM executives. 

The UITP, of which BSM is a member, brings together 1,900 key stakeholders in the field of mobility, including public transport authorities, operators, research centres and service providers. 

This is a project financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by European Union – NextGenerationEU.

The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys is hosting a concert by Beyoncé on Thursday, 8 June, part of ‘The Renaissance World Tour’. To coincide with the concert, the Anella Olímpica and the City Council are reactivating the information campaign “The Estadi Olímpic is near you. Choose the most sustainable way of getting there”, with the aim of favouring sustainable mobility to Montjuïc mountain. 

People going to the Estadi Olímpic are recommended to use public transport or go on foot, and to go early. The estadiolimpic.barcelona website offers a series of practical information on how to get to Montjuïc mountain by public transport, along with advice and recommendations concerning accessibility and safety, among other resources of interest. 

Get to the Estadi Olímpic well in advance 

The doors open at 5.30 pm. It is important to get to Montjuïc early so that people do not all arrive at once. You should check for any updates on the concert start time on the Estadi Olímpic website or the social media for the Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the concert promoter.

Prioritising the use of public transport and travelling on foot 

You should use public transport (Bus, Metro, Funicular or FGC) to the stations and stops closest to Montjuïc Park (Espanya, Poble Sec, Paral·lel or Foc) and then, if possible, use the signposted pedestrian routes. 

You can find information on the various public transport lines available (Bus, Metro, Funicular, FGC) on the Estadi Olímpic, Palau Sant Jordi, TMB and FGC websites, as well as the SMOU application. 

Extra services on the 150 Bus line and shuttle bus service

On concert days, TMB will be providing extra services on line 150 (Pl. Espanya – Montjuïc Castle) during regular service hours. There will also be a shuttle bus service on leaving the concert, in order to facilitate the return journey down the mountain.  

Escalators will be in operation for longer

To facilitate travel on foot, the escalators will continue operating until 2 am. 

Parking restrictions for private vehicles

To coincide with the concerts, there will be a special operation in place, coordinated by the Guàrdia Urbana police force and Civic Officers, limiting street parking on the signposted sections of Avinguda de l’Estadi, Passeig Olímpic, Passeig del Migdia and the streets of Jocs del 92 and Doctor Font i Quer, along with various parking areas located around the Anella Olímpica. People are advised to prioritise travel by public transport to ensure fluid traffic flows and to reduce polluting emissions.

The funicular railway at the Tibidabo Amusement Park gained the award in the same week that it notched up a million passengers, a milestone which will be celebrated on Saturday 3 June with a public celebration

The funicular railway at Tibidabo Amusement Park, Cuca de Llum, has won an award for the best sustainable transport project in the eleventh edition of the prestigious Architizer A+ Awards. The online architecture platform Architizier, which organises these important awards, has published the verdict of the professional jury and the result of the public vote to determine the most significant international projects in the sphere of architecture, design and innovation. 

Created by the architect Josep Miàs, the Cuca de Llum was the winner in the ‘Sustainable Transport Project’ category, included in the competition for the first time to recognise, among other aspects, forms of transport that include sustainable systems and materials while also following best practices in regard to design, construction and ethical operations. The jury appreciated the unique and exclusive design of the funicular, which connects Barcelona with the summit of Tibidabo. 

The innovative design of the Tibidabo funicular took the award ahead of the urban project ‘One Green Mile’ from Bombay, conceived by the Studio POD, and the ‘Vendôme multimodal hub’, a transport interchange by the Bisson Fortin and Provencher studio for the Montreal Metro, in Canada.

From historical funicular to recognised sustainable transport system

When the Cuca de Llum became operational, it marked a major change in the park’s mobility, in line with the goal of reducing pollutant emissions at the top of the mountain and fostering the use of collective transport.

The Cuca de Llum entered service in 2021, replacing Tibidabo Amusement Park‘s old funicular railway inaugurated in 1901 and the first in the Spanish state. 
The Cuca was created by the Barcelona studio MIAS Arquitectes, based on a design by the prestigious architect Josep Miàs, who had already worked with Tibidabo a number of times on projects such as the Espai Lego, the Embruixabruixes ride, the Marionetarium and Plaça del Jardí.

With a capacity for 252 passengers, the new funicular allows users to reach the top of Tibidabo in just a few minutes, cutting the journey time considerably compared to other transport options. The Cuca de Llum also boasts an innovative design that offers unique panoramic views, excellent passenger comfort, digital devices to augment their experience during the journey and a modern lighting system inspired by the future. Thanks to this award, the new funicular now becomes an international example of the latest technology applied to sustainable mobility. It was built by the multinational company Leitner. 

Cuca de Llum notches up a million visitors

This important recognition comes in the same week that the Cuca de Llum will carry its millionth passenger to the top of Tibidabo, two years after its inauguration in June 2021. The Amusement Park is marking this double landmark with a big celebration on Saturday, 3 June, starting at 10.30 am.

The event includes music, performances, shows and surprises for everybody present.

The ceremony recognised the role of organisations and professionals in the field of biodiversity dissemination, research and conservation

The awards went to the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), the doctor in Biology Xavier Ferrer Parareda, the doctor in Veterinary Sciences Antoni Ramis and the journalist and disseminator Cori Calero López

The special award for work in dissemination was also awarded posthumously to the journalist Mària Sánchez Ledesma 

The Barcelona Zoo Foundation held the second edition of Biodiversity Night this evening, in the auditorium on the Ciutadella Campus of Pompeu Fabra University. Attended by some hundred experts from various biodiversity-related fields, the ceremony was held in recognition of the contribution made by institutions and professionals in the areas of biodiversity dissemination, research and conservation, particularly in Catalonia. 

The gala was hosted by the geographer and meteorologist Francesc Mauri, and featured an account from Enric Sala, a marine biologist and resident explorer with National Geographic. The director of Barcelona Zoo, Antoni Alarcón, took stock of the main on-site research and conservation projects developed and carried out by the Barcelona Zoo Foundation between 2020 and 2022.

This year’s award for institutional work went to the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), for helping to give science a significant role in sustainable forest management, biodiversity and the circular bioeconomy. 

The award for a professional career in biodiversity research and conservation went to Xavier Ferrer Parareda, a PhD in Biology and a lecturer at the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences at the UB, and Antoni Ramis Salvà, a PhD in Veterinary Sciences and a lecturer in Animal Health. 

The TV3 journalist and scientific disseminator Cori Calero López also received the award for her work disseminating biodiversity. 

The Barcelona Zoo Foundation also gave a special award this year, in recognition of work in the area of environmental and biodiversity dissemination. This was given posthumously to Mària Sánchez Ledesma, a journalist and the figure behind the renowned environmental programme from RTVE El escarabajo verde. The award was collected by her partner, fellow journalist Manel Lucas, who was accompanied by their son and daughter.

Biodiversity Night is intended as a space for recognising the active contribution of organisations and professionals in defence of biodiversity, scientific research and dissemination relating to wild fauna and its natural habitats. The ceremony is particularly aimed at raising awareness over the need to conserve natural diversity and the threat that exists for some species.

This was the second edition of Biodiversity Night, after the first was held in 2019. 

Solid commitment to research, conservation and education in favour of biodiversity

The Barcelona Zoo Foundation launched its Research and Conservation Programme over a decade ago, which gives support to research and the preservation of the species at the greatest risk. The programme gives annual grants to projects working to constantly improve animal welfare, which contribute to conservation and research in the sphere of biodiversity, produce quality science and disseminate scientific practice. The Foundation has awarded eight grants this year to projects focusing their study on wild fauna and biodiversity.

The new model for Barcelona Zoo firmly backs conservation, scientific research and dissemination relating to wild fauna and its natural habitats. In this respect, events such as Biodiversity Night highlight the need to promote research and conversation programmes conducted by the Zoo or in collaboration with third parties, carried out to help protect the most endangered species of wild animals.

Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) is taking part as an exhibitor at the biggest world summit on public transport being held at Fira Gran Via from 4 to 7 June and organised by the International Public Transport Association (UITP) 

The BSM stand will be playing host to presentations and talks on future projects carried out in the area of tourist mobility and the contribution from services such as Bicing and the SMOU app to make Barcelona a healthier and more sustainable city

Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) will be taking part in the Global Public Transport Summit organised by the International Public Transport Association (UITP) at Fira Gran Via from 4 to 7 June. This is the biggest world summit on mobility, with some 15,000 international visitors expected to take part, to discover the latest trends in sustainable urban transport. 

BSM will be one of the 380 exhibitors participating in the fair being held in parallel to the summit from 5 to 7 June. Adopting the slogan, “Creating your future mobility”, BSM has designed a 100 m2 space for visitors to discover how the company promotes solutions for advancing towards an increasingly planned, shared, connected and sustainable mobility in Barcelona. The Bicing bike-sharing service, the Endolla Barcelona public electric-mobility network, the Aparcaments BSM Network and the SMOU and SPRO mobility apps will be the star attractions. 

The stand will also be playing host to several presentations and talks on some of the future challenges facing BSM. The first activity, on Monday, 5 June, looks at the work being carried out to manage the flow of tourist coaches through digitalisation and the use of data. 

The following day, Tuesday, 6 June, will focus on Bicing, which has become one of the city’s safest, most sustainable and healthiest forms of individual transport in the city. BSM will take advantage of this important summit to take stock of how the last 15 years have seen this service become an element for transforming city residents’ mobility habits and the morphology of the city itself. 

The SMOU mobility app rounds off activity at the stand on Wednesday, 7 June. This explanation will set out how SMOU has been working to meet new personal-mobility needs and what future strategy it is pursuing, through innovation and public-private collaboration, to become a global mobility tool in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

BSM: sustainable mobility services for a better quality of life

Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) is one of the main service companies in Barcelona. In recent years it has become a benchmark in managing mobility services and looking after public spaces, as well as an outstanding cultural and leisure operator.

We recommend that you head to the Estadi Olímpic early, using sustainable means of transport

It is the first time that a band has ever played to a full Estadi Olímpic on four nights 

On 24, 25, 27 and 28 May, the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys is hosting four concerts by the British group Coldplay. The rock band led by Chris Martin is playing four sold-out concerts in the city, as part of their ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour, making them the first group to ever fill the Estadi Olímpic on four nights. 

To coincide with the four concerts, the Anella Olímpica and the City Council are reactivating the informative campaign “The Estadi Olímpic is near you. Choose the most sustainable way of getting there”, with the aim of favouring sustainable mobility to Montjuïc mountain. 

People going to the Estadi Olímpic are recommended to use public transport or go on foot, and to go early. The estadiolimpic.barcelona website offers a series of practical information on how to get to Montjuïc mountain by public transport, along with advice and recommendations concerning accessibility and safety, among other resources of interest. 

Get to the Estadi Olímpic well in advance 

The doors will open at 5 pm. It is important to arrive to Montjuïc early and in a staggered fashion. You should consult any new information on the concert starting times on the Estadi Olímpic website or the social networks for the Stadium, Palau Sant Jordi and the concert promoter.

Prioritising the use of public transport and travelling on foot 

You should use public transport (Bus, Metro, Funicular or FGC) to the stations and stops closest to Montjuïc Park (Espanya, Poble Sec, Paral·lel or Foc) and then, if possible, use the signposted pedestrian routes. 

You can find information on the various public transport lines available (Bus, Metro, Funicular, FGC) on the Estadi Olímpic, Palau Sant Jordi, TMB and FGC websites, as well as the SMOU application. 

Extra services on the 150 Bus line and shuttle bus service

On concert days, TMB will be providing extra services on line 150 (Pl. Espanya – Montjuïc Castle) during regular service hours. There will also be a shuttle bus service on leaving the concert, in order to facilitate the return journey down the mountain.  

Escalators will be in operation for longer

To facilitate travel by foot, the escalators will continue operating until 2 am. 

Parking restrictions for private vehicles

To coincide with the concerts, there will be a special operation in place, coordinated by the Guàrdia Urbana police force and Civic Officers, limiting street parking on the signposted sections of Avinguda de l’Estadi, Passeig Olímpic, Passeig del Migdia and the streets of Jocs del 92 and Doctor Font i Quer, along with various parking areas located around the Anella Olímpica. People are advised to prioritise travel by public transport to ensure fluid traffic flows and to reduce polluting emissions.

The estadiolimpic.barcelona and palausantjordi.barcelona websites offer information about the various public transport options for reaching the Anella Olímpica facilities (Estadi Olímpic, Palau Sant Jordi and Sant Jordi Club). The websites also contain other information of interest, such as a general map of services, accessibility measures and assistance for people with reduced mobility and other specific needs resulting from recognised disabilities. Users will also find an FAQ section with information on aspects such as purchasing tickets and ticket validity, services available at the facilities, safety and security measures and protocols and access policies for minors, etc. 

A record year for Anella Olímpica concerts

After the two Bruce Springsteen concerts (28 and 30 April), the four Coldplay concerts are the second milestone in this historic season for the Estadi Olímpic‘s facet as a music venue. Beyoncé (8 June), Harry Styles (12 July) and The Weeknd (20 July) are the next artists on the list of 9 scheduled concerts, a figure never before achieved. In 2023, the Anella Olímpica expects to host nearly 150 events, attracting over 1,400,000 visitors, not including the sporting activities of FC Barcelona.
